July 1—Chief Steward Walter W. Rollins, colored, was found innocent today by a 1 seven-officer Navy general court martial on a charge of lascivious conduct with a white woman, but ] the court did not announce findings : on one count charging adultery with | a white woman. <In Navy court-martials findings I of innocence are announced at once. Rollins, a veteran of 27 years' Naval service, also was found in nocent on a charge of embezzlement! of liquor from the North Severn i .Officers’ Club, of drinking in his j quarters on three occasions, of per-! I mitting guests to create disturb ances in his rooms on two specified, date, and on one other specification ] under the adultery charge. The official court verdict on all specifications on which he was ac quitted was. “not proved.” No findings were announced on these additional counts: Gambling for money with cards on February 10, 1946, counts of permitting visitors to create a dis turbance in his basement quarters at the club on three specified dates, theft of the 89 bottles of whisky, and on one specification of the adultery charge. Rollins had pleaded innocent on all charges. Witnesses had testified during the 18-day court-martial that they had seen Rollins together with Mrs. I Margaret A. Sima, wife of Musician' 1 c William R. Sima. Jr., in Rollins’j quarters at a time when no one else j was present. Mrs. Sima denied from the wit-| ness stand that she had ever been; in Rollins’ room other than with; her husband. Sima. sr.. suspended leader of the Naval Academy Band, and his wife, and an Annapolis hairdresser. Young Sima was convicted at, a sumiftary court-martial of miscon duct and was sentenced to a bad conduct discharge. The sentence later was remitted. Lt.
