N W • ITihttGSi .N W - Netherlands Embassy Party Honors Birthday of Queen The Ambassador from the Netherlands, Dr. Alexander Loudon, and his lovely looking, blond, American-born wife, entertained in their handsome embassy on S street yesterday afternoon In honor of their Queen. Today is really Queen Wilhelmina’s birthday but Ambassador and Mme. Loudon celebrated yesterday in order that all members of their large staff might enjoy a three-day holiday this week end. The sagacious and highly respected Dutch monarch, who became queen when she was ten years old and was crowned when she was eighteen, is sixty-six years old today. About a hundred guests met at this all-Dutch party yesterday to drink to the health of the Queen and send best wishes across the sea for many years to come. About an hour after the reception started. when all were assembled, the Am»' bassador made a brief speech for the apecial occasion. Then came the solemn toast to the absent gueat of honor. All those connected with the em bassy who are still in town were there, of course, and also menp bers of the Netherlands Purchasing Commission and Economic, Flnan-. rial and Shipping Mission, a few from the Baltimore Consulate and several Holland-born Washingto nians. The latter group could hardly be called a Dutch colony, Mme. Lou don say*, as there are only about twenty of them altogether. The Netherlands Minister, Mr. C. J. H. Daubanton, was present: without Mme. Daubanton. who is in; Holland and will not be back until the end of September. Others in cluded the Naval Attache and Mme. j Meijer Ranneft, Jonkheer O. Rcu chlin. whose wife is in Norway, visiting her family; Dr. and Mme. de Beus, Comdr. J. Blaauboer, B. N. N. R.; Mr. B. van Loen. Dr. A. Zaal and Mr. and Mrs. E. L. C. Schiff Receiving much attention on all sides were Mr. and Mrs. Herman van Royen who are visiting this country. He was recently foreign minister of the Netherlands and is the son of a former minister from his country to the United States. Mme. Loudon came down from Nonquitt, Mass., for yesterday's af fair and later in the evening she and the Ambassador took the train back for this attractive resort. Mme. Loudon and their children have spent the summer there, but her husband, who has only been up for two week ends the entire season, hopes to have a longer stay this time. The whole family will be back in Washington by the end of the month. Miss Kyle Wed To Mr. Manning In a quiet ceremony In St. Mat thew’s Cathedral last evening Miss Catherine Patricia Kyle, daughter of Mrs. John Joseph Shugrue, be ' came the bride of Mr. Allan Francis Manning, son of Mrs. Matilda Theresa Manning of New York. The Rev. John Arguta officiated. Escorted to the altar by her uncle, Comdr. James Moran, U. 8. N. R., the bride wore a street-length royal blue crepe dress with long sleeves and a full skirt. An off-the face cloche-style hat and white orchid corsage completed her cos tume. Her only attendant was her sister, Mrs John Edgar. Murdock, jr„ who was costumed in forest green and wore a corsage of gar denias. Mr John Dempsey of Phila delphia was best man. A dinner for the bridal couple and immediate family followed at the Metropolitan Club, after which Mr. and Mrs. Manning left for a honey-' moon at the Homestead in Hot Springs, Va. They will make their home in the Capital. Mrs. Manning is a graduate of Holton Arms School and attended Bryn Mawr College. 8he made her debut at the Sulgrave Club a few seasons ago and is a provisional member of the Junior League. Her husband was graduated from Ford ham University and served with the Coast Guard during the war. He is now with the State Depart ment. Rigby-Sherman Announcement !] Mr and Mrs. Donald M. Rigby i of Everett, Wash., have announced^ the engagement of their daughter, Miss Enid Elizabeth Rigby, to Mr. Robert Brown Sherman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sherman of West Haven, Conn. Miss Rigby makes her home here with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Rigby, and the latter entertained at a small dinner party to make the announcement to a small group of friends. No date has been set for the wedding. The bride-elect attended Amer-l ican University and is now employed in the university's graduate division. Mr. Sherman recently was dis charge from the Marine Corps after i service with the 0th Regiment on Okinawa and in China. Returns Home Mrs. Katharine Frost, who has been spending the summer in New England, has returned to her home here. For part of the season she was the guest in Cummington, Mass, of Mrs. Lydia Hoffman Beh rendt, and she also was the guest of Mrs Arthur Davidson Ficke in Hillsdale, N. Her only attendant was her sister, Miss Elizabeth Quirk, who wore a powder-blue dress with navy blue accessories. Mr. Robert C. Healey of Providence, R. I., served as beat man. Niko lopoulos, which took place amid decorations of white flower* and palms with the Rev. Aemilianos Laloussis officiating at the ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr, and Mrs. Andrew E. Papandrew, and her father escorted her and ; gave her in marriage. She wore a dress of white satin trimmed i with pearls, a crown of pearls hold ing her veil of illusion, and she carried white roses and orchids. Miss Dema Metros was the maid of honor, wearing pink and carry ! ing pink roses and blue delphinium, [ and the bridesmaids were Miss Thelma Broumas and Miss Amelia Apostolou, who wore aqua and car ried yellow roses. Vivian George served as junior bridesmaid, and the flower girl was Joyce Ann Galanis. Both wore white frock*, the former carrying pink roses and the latter carrying a basket of yellow flowers. Mr. Harry A. Magafan was beat man for the bridegroom, who is the son of Mr*. Olga E. Nikolopoulos, and the u*hers were Mr. John T Roumel, Mr. George Petrakis and Mr. James S. Lambros. Theodore P. Zainis served a* junior usher and Nick J. Galanis was the ring bearer. Following the reception Mr. and Mrs. Nikolopoulos left for a trip to New York. They now are at home at 1340 Quincy street. ABE*—NO. 4134 UAL IITATI Washingtonian Wed in Texas Last Evening A wedding of much interest in Washington took place in Laredo, Tex., last evening when Mr. Freder ick Drum Hunt, United States Con sul at Nuevo Laredo. Mexico, was married to Miss Eleanor Conly, daughter of Mrs. Robert Sawyer Conly, of Laredo, in the Christ Episcopal Church there. The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Arthur Devld Condon, who went to Texas for the wedding, and the late Mr. Richard Drum Hunt, both of whose families have been identified with Washington for several genera tions. Chaplain Edwin L. Conly, U. S N. R„ a brother of the bride, ofllc iated at the ceremony and she was given in marriage by another broth er, Mr. Robert Sawyer Conly, jr. Her gown was fashioned of white brocade satin imported from China before the war and made with a fitted bodice, bouffant skirt and a sweetheart neckline. Her tulle veil fell from a halo made of beaded, brocade satin and she wore a strand of oriental pearls and earrings which were the gift of the bridegroom. Her bouquet was of orchids. The bride's only attendant was Mrs. James A. Mayo of Laredo, who wore a gown of yellow satin with a halo of the same material and car ried orchid*. Comdr. Richard Drum Hunt, U. 8. N., of Washington was bast man for his brother and the ushers were Mr. Paul T. Conly, brother of th# bride: Mr. Gerald G. Jones, United States Vice Consul at Nuevo Laredo, and Mr. Claude E. G’Sell. A reception at the Plaza Hotel fol lowed the wedding. Among the guests were the Mayor of Laredo and Mrs. Hugh Kluck, the Mayor of Nuevo Laredo and Mrs. Jesus M. Garcia, the Commanding General in Nuevo Laredo and Mrs. Gustavo Arevals Vera, the chiefs of custom and im migration in both Laredo and Nuevo Laredo, the Mexican Consul in La-; redo and Mrs. Xavier Osoraio, the American Vice Consuls in Monterrey. Mr. John Zengotita and Mr. Anthony Starcevic, and other officials of Texas and Mexico. The bridegroom, who has held posts in London, Bucharest, Shang hai and Africa, is a graduate of Severn School, George Washington University and the Diplomatic and Consular Institute. His bride is a graduate of the University of Texas.
