Eat. 180A Man Held in Hanging Son in Sack From Rafter •y the Associated Frees EAST CHICAGO, Ind., Sept. 13 — John Robinson, 44-year-old steel worker, who police said, placed his naked, 7-year-old son in a burlap sack and hung him from a rafter in a shed, was held today under $2,000 bond on a charge of gross cruelty. Polite said they found Robinson's son, Eddie, after they had received a call from Robinson's wife, Mae. who told police she had protested the punishment. Police said her hus band punished his son “the way my mother used to punish me,” and he accused the boy of having taken 25 cents irom his mother. Police said the boy's head was sticking out of the sack, which was tied by a rope and hanging 7 feet above the floor. M350 WWL—The Boy* Store, fourth floor Former Pilot Found Hanged on Door Hook John Henry McConnell, 25, of the] 2000 block of Q street N.W., Royal, Canadian Air Force bomber pilot for more than five years, was found hanged in a bathroom of his room-1 ing house late yesterday, a necktie around his neck. Police said the body was found by Frank D. Smith, 24, a roommate, j who broke down the bathroom door, i The other end of the necktie was tied to a door hook, according to Deputy Coroner Christopher J. Murphy. Police said Mr. McConnell had been dead several hours before he was found. Mr. Smith told officers his friend had seemed discouraged on awakening yesterday. Roomers explained the veteran had been em ployed as a clerk with the Briggs Clarifier Corp., Bethesda, Md., and had been disappointed at not ob taining a position with major air lines here. Mr. McConnell was born in Windsor, Ontario. He was on several overseas missions during the war as a pilot and radioman on a Lancaster bomber. On being discharged early this year he came to Washington to seek a flying assignment, it was said. Survivors are his father, Percy McConnell, an automotive engineer in Windsor, and a sister. Group fo Inspect Port of Baltimore A group of 70 Georgetown Uni versity students will make an In spection trip tomorrow at the Port of Baltimore. The trip was ar ranged before the maritime strike. Before the war. similar trips to the ports of New York, Philadel phia, Norfolk, Va.. and Baltimore were made by shipping students of Georgetown as a practical phase of] their studies to see how a port ticks. | A trip to New York, it was said,; probably will be taken later this fall. The Baltimore Chamber of Com merce has arranged a harbor in spection trip for one group of the students.
