Its headliner is Nick Lucas, who has been singing to his own guitar accompaniments for a long time and who still is good to listen to as he waxes nostalgic. Metropolitan 4727 ★ Heor The Coke Club with Morton Downey WOL 11:15 A M. V u i ■ • But listen, folks, you don’t have to put up a sign to shut your children out of their home. Sharp words can do it just as com pletely, just as quickly. For, if your children's ears ring with . . , “please don’t slam that door” . . . “don’t track mud all over the kitchen Hoor” . . . “for pity’s sake, don't slide down the bannister again” . . . you are shutting them out. In the golden memories of childhood, a home should be all tangled up with the smell of baking in the kitchen (and licking the frosting pan) . . . with candlelight suppers and you reading Christopher Robin aloud at bedtime . .. with a floor where trains speed around, a place where skates are close to the front door, a shelf where dolls look down and are always smiling. Such a home will be filled with music in the years to come—' because you put up with the throes of practicing right now. Such a home will send a musician, an artist, a writer, or an architect out into the world—because you gritted your teeth and closed your eyes to the fact that nails and paints and rubber cement are hard on the furnishings. Are you then to let your children "wreck" your home? Of course not! But how can they learn—how can they gain a sense of pride in home—unless it’s partly theirs? Unless they have a place for their bikes and sleds and knickknacks? Unless they have corners.. .or rooms of their oum that they can help decorate? If your children are to grow up with a sense of good taste, they must learn by doing; by trial and practice in partnership w ith you. Yes, “Better your home . . . better your Living” can have a wonderful meaning for the youngsters, just as it can for you. So gather your family around you when you turn to your favorite “home” magazine for ideas on home improvement. Let even the little members in on budget talks, on trimming tricks, on the weighty problems of a chair that will last versus a rocking horse that won’t. And your rewards will be great. For that’s the way to make children stay home more, bring their friends home more, care for their home more. * Remember, a better home means better living for the whole family! * , — » > ' * *
