Sept. 20.—The pal tiallv settled truck strike today slowed commerce and industry for the 19th day in New York while an other teamster dispute seemed to be developing into a long affair. Members of Local 804. Interna tional Brotherhood of Teamsters (AFLi. on strike against the United Parcel Service, voted yesterday to stay away from their jobs in defi ance of the international union. The parcel strike has disrupted deliveries and receipts of merchandise by 375 depaitment stores and specialty shops alter employes walked out be cause they said the company would agiee to pay them for only one day during the general trucking strike. Meanwhile, a bloc of 55 large and small general trucking concerns filed a damage suit for $10,000 in Federal CouFt charging Local 807 with con ducting an unlawful strike in viola tion of the Smith-Connally War Labor Disputes Act by failing to give 30 days' notice before the walk oui The court action came on top of mounting tension by both employ ers and the truckers. While the Em ploye:' Wage Scale Committee stepped up its campaign to push; the dispute into arbitration mem bers of the three striking locals continued to try to split the em ployer ranks. However, a spokesman for Local 316 said today he saw the possibility of ending the dispute between his local and the Master Truckmen of America, which has 200 members. He declined to comment further on the possibility. Union figures put the proportion' of trucks rolling again at about 40 per cent, while employers placed it, at less tnan 25 per cent.
