Were all sympathy, Ma'm. We've got much the same problem. And like yours, It's not a case oi shrinkage, but of growth. You see, our payrolls have grown a lot fatter recently , . . 3*/« million per year to be exact ... a healthy gain for our workers. They are among the highest-paid transit employes in the country. Then, too, we've put on a lot more vehicle miles . . . almost 2Va million per year since the end of the war ... to make your transit service better, more convenient, and comfortable. But this has also made our expenses a lot fatter . .. uncomfortably so. Uncomfortably, because now we have great big bounc ing expenses . . . greatly developed service . . . but less Income to cover themt Surely the city with the highest per capita income of any in the country deserves the best transit system . . . but our expenses are fast outgrowing our income. So . . . how would you make ends meet? 2 | M+ufr C^>. Us+on to "As Wheels Turn"-—WMAL, 8:15 P, M. ovary Wednesday
