BETTY EOT TOM. MOUNT TUFXm Hollywood: 'Chicken Every Sunday’ Gets New Cast By Shcilah Graham Bette Davis’ mother-in-law was married to Frank Miller, an elec trician at Warner’s, on Easter Sun day in San Diego. Bette and hus band William Grant Sherry attended the wedding. Anne Baxter, the gal with the golden Oscar, is the new top star for “Chicken Every Sunday." This very amusing story is getting a complete new setup in the way of a cast, with Anne as the mother, Dan Dailey as the father and Peggy Ann Garner as the daughter who tells the story. This William Perlberg picture is now scheduled to start in the late summer. Tom Drake plays Jaime in “Cass Timberlane” with Spencer Tracy and Lana Turner. Now there is nothing to hold up the start of this picture next Monday. And that's very nice company fat Tom to be keeping. Red Skelton has signed a new three-year pact with his radio spon sors, and it gives him a clear $20, 000 per week for himself! With that sort of money 1 don’t know why Red ever worries about anything, but, like all comedians, he worries about everything. Robert Young has decided ^gainst accepting the preferred lead in “The White Tower,” because it would have meant location jaunts of two months in Canada and three months in Switzerland. Bob has decided to take five months off from work, any way. He has two good pictures under his belt—his own production. “Three Were Thoroughbreds,” and "Crossfire,” for RKO. * * * * June Allyson was telling me on the set of "Good News ’ that Dick Pow ell’s illness was much more serious than any one knew. "He had a temperature pf 104,” says June, shuddering, "and his penicillin poi soning had swollen his legs to three times their normal size.” She’s keep ing Dick in the hospital for at least two weeks, just to be on the safe side. June adds that Dick lost 15 pounds because of his sickness, and she lost seven pounds through worry. Van Johnson has just made his first singing record for MGM rec ordings. On one side, Van sings “Goodnight,, Sweetheart,” and on the other, “I Wonder, I Wonder, I Wonder”! Greer Garson tossed a reunion party for the reassembled cast of “Woman of My Own.” And Mervyn Le Roy, now directing the added scenes, tells me that there is noth ing wrong with the picture that a little knitting together won’t cure. And by the way, when they go on location, he will not allow Greer to do any of her scenes in the water again. "I took one look at those rocks, and it's too dangerous,” says * * * * Peggy Cummins is really spinning, what with more and more dates with Cary Grant in out-of-the-way spots, and more and more dates with Huntington Hartford III, in the more conspicuous spots. Looks like Peggy has come out of her shell with a bang I Angela Lansbury, back from a trip to New York, looks like a mil lion and is preparing for her next picture, “The Red Danube.” Nancy Guild can’t find a house to live in after she marries Charles Russell, so she will re-do Charlie's bachelor apartment. The marriage will be quite soon. Linda Darnell completed her long list of presents for the “Forever Amber” people with a gold cigarette lighter yesterday to William Perl berg, producer of the picture. Linda, incidentally, exhausted after the added scenes, is in bed with a touch of the flu. Cornel Wilde is more excited than I’ve ever seen him, and it’s all about his next picture, “I Found a Dream,” with Ginger Rogers. In one dream sequence, Cornel tells me he appears to Ginger as an Indian! But apart from that, this movie is a modem sophisticated comedy. (Released by North American Newspaper Alliance.)
