Golf's Top Headliners To Appear at Junior Tourney in Texas ly tH» Associated Pross BEAUMONT, Tex., April 11.—Sane of golfdom’s greatest—Byron Nelson, Bobby Jones, Jimmy Demaret, Ben Hogan—will be interested spectators when kids of the world match shots here August 19-22 in an interna tional Junior tournament. 'Hila event, in which boys from 8 to 20 will battle for the champion ships, is the first promotional offer ing of Youth International, Inc., of which Ed Dudley, president of the Professional Golf Association, is president. This organization has a board of directors of 14 top-flight professionals. Nelson to Hold Clinic. Veazey Rainwater, jr., who was instrumental in bringing the tour nament to Beaumont, said Nelson, Jones and Dudley had definitely been obtained for the tournament and that Demaret, Hogan and others had indicated they would attend. Nelson will hold a clinic after the first day’s play and will demonstrate ■hots for the youngsters. Arrangements have been made to bring kid golfers from all over the world, major airlines having agreed to fly in the young linksmen free of charge from Canada, Central and South America, England, India, Europe, South Africa and the United states. Four Flights Scheduled. There will be four flights in the tournament for these age groups: 5-12, 13-15, 16-18 and 19-20. Cham pion of the latter group will be ccrowned grand champion of the meet. Each State may enter two golfers in each group. Under the direction of the PGA, the States npw are making arrangements for play offs to determine their entries. Actual competitive details have not been arranged, but It is expected that there will be match play after an 18-hole qualifying round in each flight. Qualifying will be at Pine Grove and Tyrrell Park Courses, with championship play at the Beaumont Country Club. Bluege was fretting over the fail ure of Mark Christman to report at Charlotte. . . . The Nats’ pilot attempted to call Clark Griffith in Washington to learn of Christman’s whereabouts, but the strike thwart ed that. . . . With his job in jeop ardy due to the Nats’ purchase of Christman, Shortstop Johnny Sul livan came up with his best fielding display in exhibition games. . . . He teamed with Priddy and Vernon to reel off four double plays in the first five Innings. Louis-Walcott Malch For Crown Sought In Philadelphia ' By tba Associated Frau PHILADELPHIA, April 11.—A move to match Joe Louis with an aging father of six who goes by the name of Jersey Joe Walcott was gaining momentum today after the National Boxing Association rated Walcott the No. 1 challenger for the heavyweight title. Leon .Rains, chairman of the Pennsylvania Athletic Commission, in proposing the bout asserted that "I believe Walcott is the best opposi tion around for Louis." “Though I would not say he would beat Louis,” Rains added quickly. "Walcott is old of course,” said Rains, “but Joe’s getting old too. I feel that a Louis-Walcott match would be very good anywhere this summer. I should like to see it staged in Philadelphia." Speculation has it that Louis probably will defend his title against the winner of the Bruce Woodcock Joe Baksi fight to be held in London next Tuesday. Woodcock is British champion and Baksi hails from Kulpmont, Pa. Walcott, who admits to 30, but probably is closer to 40, has at various times defeated Baksi, Elmer Ray of Miami and Tami Mauriello of New York, other top-ranking heavyweights. In his latest outing^, he won over Jimmy Bivins of Cleve land and Lee Q. Murray of Balti more. FTVL. a r.-.i_— A_111 _ _ . * **v AN.
