Hecht Co. Will Assist
In Lowering Prices,
C. B. Dulcan Says
The Hecht Co. today announced a
policy of helping bring prices into
line by offering merchandise “at the
lowest possible prices consistent with
honest and intelligent business
Judgment."
Charles B. Dulcan, sr., vice presi
dent and general manager of the
department store* here, called on
fellow retailers throughout the Na
tion to make “the consumers’ dollar
buy a dollar's worth of goods.”
Pointing out that everybody has a
share in the Job of lowering prices,
Mr. Dulcan said there must be an
exercise of decent restraint in costs
and profits all the way back to the
suppliers of raw materials.
He warned that "merchandise
must be kept flowing through the
channels of distribution. Invento
ries must not pile up in warehouses
and stockrooms. People must buy,
ana Businessmen must sen to sus
tain a full production, to keep our
people gainfully employed to assure
a leveling-out process that will bring
prices Into line.”
Recriminations against suppliers,
processors and manufacturers will
avail nothing, because positive ac
tion must be taken at the point of
sale, where goods and cash pass over
the counter, Mr. Dulcan added.
He said his merchandisemen and
buyers were informing manufac
turers and suppliers that their ulti
mate prices of some merchandise
were out of range of consumers’
pocketbooks.
Senator O'Mahoney, Democrat, of
Wyoming, member of the Joint
Committee on Economic Reports,
applauded the action.
“Those who short-sightedly
charge all the traffic will bear in
the search for quick-dollar profits
should not close their eyes to the
sad fact that they are actually con
tracting purchasing power when
they go above the range of mass
consumer ability,’' he said.
Malaria is one of the oldest known
diseases of mankind.
