He addressed a dinner meeting climaxing a three-day session of the Middle Atlantic and New England divisions of the Natioml Association of Bank Women, at the Mayflower Hotel. Senator Saltonstall declared tax cuts and Government expense cuts as two of the quickest ways, in addi tion to increasing productivity, of warding off inflation. Hopeful of Achievement. "The more money you give Gov ernment, the less you have to spend on consumer goods," he said. Discussing goals and problems of the 18th Congress, he expressed certainty that "our final record of achievement will be exceptionally good." Some tax relief this year, he said, would provide an incentive to greater production, which would fesult in greater tax revenues and permit a larger reduction of the national debti in 1948. Approximately 125 women bank officials were present at last night's banquet. Miss Augusta M. Foley, Chelsea, Mass., vice president of the New England group, presided. Meeting to End Today. Yesterday's program Included a luncheon at the Washingtpn Hotel. St. Elizabeths Society Opens Meeting Friday The Medical Society of St. Eliza beths Hospital will hold its tenth annual meeting this week. The two-day session will conclude with a banquet at the Mayflower hotel at 8 p.m. Saturday. The prin cipal address is scheduled to be given by Dr. Vilhjalmur Stefans son, explorer. Physicians will attend a series of clinical lectures at St. Elizabeths, beginning at 1 pjn. Friday. A dis cussion of readjustment problems of veterans, as seen in a Veterans Administration Hygiene Clinic by Dr. A. K. Baur of Webster Grove, Mo., is first. Also due for discussion during the opening day program is "The Meaning and Scope of Psychother apy." The subject witll be analyzed by Dr. Benjamin Karpman of the ί St. Elizabeths staff. On Saturday morning the doc tors will hear a varied program, including talks on the role of a clinically trained clergy In mental hospitals, faetors precipitating ho mosexuality, and the importance of nutrition In psychiatry. The afternoon session will be de voted to the problem of schizo phrenia, with Dr. Addison M. Duval leading the symposium. Teachers Hear Gervasi Back Aid to Greece Frank Gervasi, war correspondent, appealed tor support of President Truman's foreign policy, particularly in the loan to Greece, before more than 500 District public school teachers meeting at the Mayflower Hotel yesterday. The meeting was a combined spring luncheon of 14 sponsoring school organizations. Mr. Gervasi, now a Washington correspondent for Collier's magazine, said Mr. Truman's policy can "help give us a democratic Europe. "But I doubt if $400,000,000 can _ » save democracy there," he declared referring to the proposed loan to Greece and Turkey. -Politicians who say $400,000,000 will do it arc Uars.
