S. L. Hagan, 62, Retires; Chief Clerk in D. C. Unit Sta/ilev L. Hagan, 62, chief clerk of the District Electrical Depart ment, retired yesterday after 24 years in local government service. Fellow employes staged a farewell ! reception for Mr. Hagan, who first went to work for the District in 1933 as a bookkeeper In the pur chasing office. Presented with gifts, including a gold watch and record player, Mr.| Hagan said he would find them use ful on his small ranch near Dallas, Tex., where he plans to live. A resident of Temple Hills, Md„ Mr. Hagan has a son, Stanley L. Hagan, Jr., working in the Electrical Department. I Annual 'Miss Washington' Hunt Starts Here Monday The annual search for "Miss Washington," who will be the offi cial entry in the Atlantic City Beauty Contest and possibly "Miss America of 1947," will start Monday, Station WWDC has announced. Ben Strouse, station manager, said the girl selected will be known as "Miss Greater Washington" be cause girls from outside the District will be eligible to enter the Wash ington contest and no others. The following areas are included: Mont gomery and Prince Georges coun ties, Md.; Arlington and Fairfax counties, ¥·., and Alexandria, Va. This step forestalls possibility of two girls from the same city repre senting two different areas. Last year two contestants from Alex andria represented the District and Virginia at the Atlantic City finals. A $25,000 scholarship foundation bu been set up by the Atlantic City pageant, which will be distributed among 16 of the contestants in the national finals. Application blanks and full details may be obtained from Station WWDC. Rehearsals for the preliminary contests begin June 2. Preliminary judging will be held in July. New Streamliner Added NORFOLK.
