Coaster Clinic Planned Friday For Paul Junior Hiah School Friday will be Paul Junior High School Day at the Washington Soap Box Derby Coaster Clinic. The program will begin at 3:45 p.m. in Room 528, The Star Build ing, with a questlon-and-answer period. Entrants in the coaster race, to be run in July, will be invited to present their construction problems or queries involving interpretation of the official rules. Prom 4:15 to 4:30 the boys pres ent will participate in a radio round table over Station WMAL. Bill Coyle, · radio director of The Star, will preside. Although Paul will be the school honored, all entrants and prospec tive entrants in the Derby will be welcomed at the clinic, Derby Di rector Charles Kohen emphasized. "It might be a good idea for some of the fellows from other parts of the city to show up Friday," he said. "Those Paul boys always have had fast cars and the meeting may give others an idea of the sort of ! competition they'll meet In July." After the broadcast, the official' Derby color film will be shown. As was the case at the first clinic session last Friday, Paul Boudxot's 1946 championship racer, "Good Deal," is to be on exhibition. Soap Box Derby Guide The Washington Soap Box Derby is a coaster car race for boys sponsored by The Star and the District Department of the American Legion. Boyp 11 to 15, inclusive, and those reaching 'their 11th or 16th birthdays in the period from June 1 to August 17, inclusive, are eligible. Official rule books are issued on registration with a Chevro let dealer in the Washington area. Entry blanks must be signed by a parent or guardian. The coaster cars must be boy built at a cost of not more than Î6 in addition to the amount spent for wheels and axles. Precision wheel bearings are prohibited, but ordinary ball bearings are permitted. These maximum limite are prescribed: Length, 80 inches; width, 42 inches; height, in cluding windshield, 32 Inches; weight of racer, 150 pounds; combined weight of racer and driver, 250 pounds. Marine Sergeant Forfeits $25 for Slapping Picket A Marine stationed here yester day forfeited $25 collateral for slap ping a woman picket on April 28 at the Ludlow telephone exchange building, 629 Β street N.E. Municipal Court Judge Aubrey B. Fennell declared the forfeiture by Sergt. Arthur R. Walner, 27, who is assigned to the Marine Barracks, Eighth and I streets S.E. Sergt. Walner was charged with assault on a warrant sworn to by Miss Vivetta Eccles, 24, of the 600 block of C street S.E. Miss Eccles told police she was slapped to the eidewalk while on the picket line.
