Hollywood: London Wants, And May Get, Jimmy Durante By Sheiloh Graham Judy Garland will hop off t( New York for a vacation when she finish» "The Pirate." Husband Vincent* Minnelli, the baby and the nurse are going along, too. Next year they all go to Europe, but foi a vacation, not to work. And that reminds me, Jimmy Durante has been offered six weeks of personal appearances for Septem ber and October in London. HeU probably go — he's a tremendous favorite in England as well as here. Maureen O'Hara's next is "Out of All Time" at RKO. And she would very much like to have Cary Grant or Fredric March for hei leading man. "I prefer mature men,' says Maureen. Veronica Lake has Just signed a new seven-year contract at Para mount. Ronnie's deal is to make three pictures a year—one for her own productions. Shell probably do this one with her director hus band, Andre De Toth. Poor Linda Darnell! Here's another disappointment. As you know she has to keep her hair blond until the premiere of "Forever Amber." Well, she thought that was to be in November. Now I learn that because of the Techni color shortage of prints, "Forever Amber" won't be related until spring of next year! And there's a limit to what hair can take. * * * # Wallace Berry gets Gladys George as his leading woman in "Alias a Gentleman." Wally gifted his adopt ed daughter, Carol-Ann with a de luxe convertible for her 16th birthday. When Yvonne De Carlo marries Howard Duff, she is giving the home for which she paid $20,000 to her mother. That's nice. And I'll make a bet now that Yvonne will be very happy as Mrs. Duff. Ethel Barrymore Is off to New York when she finishes "Memory of Love." But she's coming back quickly, after seeing her grandson. "I prefer to make pictures," Miss Barrymore told me, "unless the irresistible play comes along." From the tone of her voice, she will find plays easy to resist. Merle Oberon and Lucien Ballard are taking their car when they go to Europe this summer and they will drive through France and Italy. Merle will probably take in India, also. She met the Maharanee of Baroda a week ago and received an invitation to stay with her in India. Claude Jarman, jr., hasn't worked since lasi juiy in nign aaroasee, and at the moment there is nothing for him to do until falL That's too long a gap between pictures—par ticularly at Claude's age. He's 13. * * # * Teresa Wright has asked Husband Niven Busch to write another West ern, to star her with Robert Mitchum again. When Jane Greer suddenly dashed off to New York last week, she left Ed Lasker with the problem of whether or not to chase her to the big city. It's no use Ed, Jane just doesn't want to get married. Dan Dailey refers to himself as "The Maria Montez of 20th Century Fox." Dan is now making his third Technicolor picture in a row—"Off to Buffalo." This boy is doing all right, with Betty Grable, Nancy Guild, Anne Baxter and Jeanne Crain as his leading ladies in his first four films at the studio. Ferenc MQlnar is coming to Holly wood for the first time this summer to write an original movie for Co lumbia. Molnar recently had his nineteenth play on Broadway. Ingrid Bergman's husband, Dr. Peter Lindstrom, has a lot to do with Ingrid's change of plan to make her "Joan of Ac" picture with Walter Wanger instead of with Willie Wyler. Ingrid never does anything without first consulting her husband. She has a tremendous respect for his ability as a doctor too, and when she> in Los Angeles she spends her free time, watching Peter perform operations. I can't wait to see Ingrid in "Arch of Triumph." (Released by North American Newspaper Alliance, Inc.) First Baptist Choir Plans Recital in Bethesda The choir of the Bethesda First Baptist Church will present a recital at 8 p.m. tomorrow in the church, Wilson lane and Meirs avenue, Bethesda. Gertrude D. Price will direct the choir, which will be assisted by the Newcomb Bethesda Community Singers. J. Β. Sellers, 38 Years In U. S. Service, Retiring Retirement of James B. Sellars, S3, after 38 years In Government service, was announced by the State Department today. Mr. Sellars, who lives at 1109 North Illinois, Arlington, Va., began working for the Government in 1909 In Kansas City, with the Agri cultural Department. He was trans ferred here in 1915 and continued with the Agricultural Department until 1944, when he joined the Office of the Co-ordinator .of Inter American Affairs as an auditor. He became an auditor in the State Department when it absorbed the co-ordinator's office in 1945. Mr. Sellars, who has served for several years as secretary-treasurer of the Capital Yacht Club, plans to spend much of his time boating.
