D. C. TelephonesShow Decrease in April, Because of Strike By Donald B. Hadley Because of the telephone strike, new connections to lines of the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co. in April failed to offset discon nections, and telephones in the Dis trict’ of Columbia declined mod erately to 392,480 on April 30, it was reported today. The office of the housing expedite; last week issued a permit for com pletion of the building. Records lr the case show the sum involved ir the permit was $734,384. "The new office building is being constructed by Jerry Maiatico Washington builder,” Mr. Bendei explained in a statement. “The RFC has held an option since before construction was begun to lease for its own use 11 of the 12 stories oi J the completed building. "It appears from preliminary In vestigations by the subcommittee,” charged Mr. Bender, “that this was engineered by the RFC to get some very elegant office space for its own use at a time when materials are critically needed for housing. "The subcommittee wants to find out If such procurement and build ing methods are customary with the RFC and how they can be Justi fied at the expense of building urgently needed for home* and business quarters for the use of veterans." ___ Episcopal Session Opens In Alexandria Tomorrow The annual Virginia Episcopal , Diocesan Convention will open at ; 10 ant. tomoafow in Christ Church , in Alexandria.
