'Common Glory'Cast,
Choir Ready to Open
First Show Thursday

WILLIAMSBURG. Va., July 12.—
Hie 125-member cast of players of
"Hie Common Glory” and the 40
volce choir will settle down Monday
to three final days of intensive re
hearsals prior to the opening per
formance Thursday of Virginia’s his
torical drama.
Some 1,500 State officials and em
ployes will attend the opening to
mark the observance of State/night.
A special C. & O. train will make the
round trip Thursday from Richmond
to carry State personnel to the show,
written by Paul Green, Pulitzer prize
winning author and playwright.
Friday has been designated "His-'
toric Peninsula Night,” with most
reserved seats being held for resi
dents of the peninsula area, and

honor of the Jamestowne Society
and other patriotic organizations.
A series of “nights” later will
honor various other* organizations
and groups, with special ceremonies
for “Freedom of Assembly” night
on July 30, anniversary of the meet
ing of the first popularly elected
legislative body of the New World
at Jamestown in 1619.
The symphonic drama, which is
scheduled to open an eight-week
run Thursday, tell the story of early
Virginia’s part in forging a new,
democratic way of life on this con
tinent—and how Virginians worked
and fought for the freedoms now
generally accepted.
It will be given at the newly built
Matogka Lake amphitheater on the
Jamestown road.
Mrs. Peron Changes Plans,
Now Will Visit London

ROME, July 12—Members of
Mrs. Juan D. Peron’s party said in
Genoa today that the wife of the
Argentine president had changed
her plans again and now would
visit London. She was expected to
leave .Wednesday.
A British Embassy spokesman in
Rome said the embassy transmitted
to Mrs. Peron a message from the
British Foreign Office saying she
would be a “very welcome guest” if
she chose to visit Britain.

man said Queen Elizabeth had inti
mated previously she would be glad
to meet the visitor if Mrs. Peron
arrived while the royal family was
in London. The Argentine presi
dent’s wife intends to make brief
visits to Portugal and France, Lon
don sources said.

said.

Shipbuilding Locals Urged

To Commence Soon
Work on the main unit of the new
St. John’s Episcopal Church, Be
thesda-Chevy Chase, will begin in
the near future, Richard H. Akers,
senior warden of the church, and
Charles G. Embrey, Construction
Committee chairman, announced
yesterday.
The unit, to cost approximately
$190,000, will be erected at Wiscon
sin avenue and Bradley lane, Be
thesda, In about nine months. The
work is to be done by the Parkhill
Construction Co. of Washington.

Time Bomb Sinks Ship

ton Panamian ship Vrlsl sank at
its dock here yesterday after a time
bomb had blown a hole in its side.
There were no casualties.
