Vitamin Believed Found In Poultry Research By th» Associated Press KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Aug. 25.—A member of the faculty and a grad uate student at the University of Tennessee report discovery of an unidentified nutrient, believed to be a new vitamin. Dr. Homer Patrick, professor of animal husbandry, said he and Ed ward L. Stephenson of Calhoun, Tenn., the student, had made the discovery after a year's work with poultry feed. He said: “We are working on the isolation of a new vitamin and when it is properly isolated and synthesized with regular rations it will be an Important factor In livestock feed ing and probably in human nutri tion.” He said charts showed the nutri ent resulted In a 25 per cent Increase In the weight of six-week-old chickens. The discovery was made experi menting with liquids from spoil ing fish, Dr. Patrick said. It is estimated that there were 8.609,000 acres devoted to rubber plantations in 1938.
