Couldn’t Be Done,
But Boris Did It
By Hi* Aoociatcd Pr*«»
HOLLYWOOD.
Movie Maker Boris Mom* is full
of ideas for lifting films above the
boy-meets-girl level.
One of his best, he thinks, re
volved around the question: “What's
happened to Mme. Du Barry’s bed
since she slept in it?” Boris' en
thusiasm for the gimmick was so
great he even sold a studio on it.
“But,” he walls, “the Johnston
office nixed it. I can't Imagine
why.”
I All Boris' ideas are not so ill
fated. Latest proof is "Carnegie
Hall,” a movie employing the tal-i
ents of most of the great concert
artists of the day.
“They told me it couldn’t be done,”
says Morros. “They said profes
sional jealousy would prevent the
stars from appearing in the same
picture. All would want top billing.
But I solved that. I sold the artists
on the idea of a movie dedicated to
Carnegie Hall and had more appli
cations than I could use.
Boris' newest brain child concerns
a Russian novel, “The Woman of
100 Faces.” “They told me,” says
Boris, “that good writing talent
these days is hard to find—and ex
pensive. So do you know who I got
to do the script? Thomas Mann
and Louis Bromfield.”
That's an achievement, even in
Hollywood. As Boris explains it,
“there is a point at which one |

Nine-year-old Peter Miles had to

All due precautions were taken.
Even the bird's talons were dulled.
But after the scene, Peter looked

padding on his arms and hands and
demanded of Producer Lewis Mile
stone:
•'Don’t you think that’s carrying
realism a bit too far?”
| times an idea is worth more to an
artist than mere money. This is
one of those ideas.”
The story is that of a beautiful
woman whose portrait is painted by
j 100 different painters. The result,
of course, is 100 different women. >
Who will this actress be? “I am
not positive yet,” admits Boris, “but
j I think it will be Greta Garbo.”
j The impossible, insists Boris,
; means nothing to him.
