Dancer's Murder Trial Postponed Because Of Lawyer's Illness By iht Associated Press HAVANA, Cuba. Oct. 16.—Patricia (Satira) Schmidt’s often postponed murder trial was delayed again today because of the illness of an attorney. The 22-year-old dancer from To ledo, Ohio, will resume her testi mony tomorrow, under the ques tioning of her defense attorney, Rene Castellanos. She is accused of firing a fatal pistol bullet into the throat of her lover, John Lester Mee of Chicago, aboard his yacht in Havana Harbor last April 8. At the beginning of her testi mony in response to defense ques tions, Miss Schmidt told the three judge Cuban court that Mee was "a very bad boy” who wrote poetry that was "not very nice.” Mee Shot in Quarrel. She testified earlier that she fired the fatal shot during a violent quar rel in which Mee threatened to kill her. She said she had been inti m n to n?i f Vt Uim tu.i u _ _i___ - ...... '■•‘wv i iv nnu pi Will_ ised to marry her and that their love began to cool when she dis covered he already had a wife. Today's postponement was occa sioned by the fact that Israel Soto Barroso, attorney for Charles Jack son, 27, River Forest, 111., was re quired to undergo a minor opera tion. Jackson is charged with conceal ing facts concerning Mee's death. The prosecution has recommended ,t.hat he be freed, but attorneys rep resenting Mee’s father. Dr. Lester Mee, Wilmette, 111., have refused to drop the case against Jackson. Defense Starts Questioning. The prosecution wound up its questioning of Miss Schmidt yes terday and the defense took over. One of the defense contentions is that Mee's death, five days after he was shot, was attributable to the rough handling Miss Schmidt says he received when he was being re moved from the yacht Satira to a hospital. TTie dancer has been the only wit ness thus far in the trial and has been on the stand for three days. Indications were that the trial would continue at least another week.
