Hooker Dies at 107; Fought With Custer, Sherman By th« Associated Press VIRGINIA, Minn., Oct. 27.—’This town today mourned the death of its most prominent military figure, Col. Charles L. Hooker, 107-year-old Civil War veteran, who fought with the force* of Gen. Custer and marched with Gen. Sherman to the sea. Col. Hooker died in his sleep late Saturday at the home of a son with jvhom he had lived here for 16 years. Family Bible records list Col. Hooker as Born April 3, 1840, in New York State. He enlisted in the Union Army in Wisconsin in 1860. The honorary rank of colonel was bestowed by Gen. Custer after the Civil War veteran took over the command of a colonel killed in action. Military funeral services will be held Thurs day in Superior, Wis. Daniel A. Wedge, 106, Dies; Fought 26 Civil War Battles AURORA. 111., Oct. 27 <P).—Daniel A. Wedge, 106, who fought in 26 engagements as a Union Soldier in the Civil War, died yesterday on his 106th birth anniversary. The commander and sole survivor of Aurora Post 20 of the Grand Army of the Republic had been bed ridden since he fractured a hip in 1930 but he continued active in GAR affairs until this year and partici pated in several recent Memorial Day parades, riding in an ambu lance. One of the nation’s oldest sur vivors of the Civil War, Mr. Wedge enlisted in the 8th Illinois Vol unteer Regiment in 1860 at the age Of 19 and served with the unit throughout the conflict. He was born in Marietta, Ohio, October 26, 1841, and came to Illinois in a covered wagon at the age of 10. He was employed by the Burlington Railroad for 45 years before his retirement in 1920. Surviving is his daughter, Miss; Mabel Wedge, with whom he had | made his home since the death of his wife in 1932. West Virginia Veteran Of Union Army Dies at 99 CAMERON, W. Va., Oct. 27 <P).— Funeral services will be held here tomorrow for Urish T. Alley, 99, described by members of his family as probably the last surviving West Virginia veteran of the Union Army. He died at the home of a grandson here yesterday. Mr. Alley would have reached his 100th birthday November 18. He enlisted in the Union Army at the age of 17. He was captured by Confederate forces at Mills Creek, Va., escaped and then was recap tured. He returned here after the war. Add sugar to A the egg yolks and beat until fluffy. Stir jn milk and melted butter. \V. Add flour and beat until smooth. Turn on very well floured board, Jf working in just enough flour so dough may be rolled. Pat with a VJ colling pin until Vi inch thick and cut with a small doughnut or JF biscuit cutter which has been dipped in flour. Fry in deep hot fat — (385® F.)~turning often until tender golden brown. Two Firemen Injured Fighting Minor Fires Two District firemen were recov ering today from injuries received in fighting two small blazes over the week end, the Fire Department reported. Firemen Harry E. Sparshot, 27, of McLean, Va., was overcome by smoke while fighting a fire on the third floor of a home at 17*8 Q street N.W. The blaze did little damage. The fireman was admitted to Emergency Hospital. Fireman Floyd J. Herndon, 47. of 7109 Georgia avenue N.W. was cut badly on the hand during a fire at 1229 Crittenden street N.W.
