Oct. 27— An official source said today a battalion of Sikhs were being flown to Srinigar —capital of embattled Kashmir—to help forces of the princely state re pel some 2.000 Pathans who have crossed the border from Pakistan iand indulged in an orgy of rapine I and killing. The decision to dispatch military aid to Kashmir was reached by the Indian cabinet early today when word reached here that rebel forces were within 30 miles of Srinigar. Panic Grips City. A correspondent for the news paper Statesman said panic had gripped Srinigar and that many of the inhabitants were fleeing on foot to Jammu—a predominantly Hindu area bordering the junction of the Indian-Pakistan frontiers. Kashimir has no gasoline, the correspondent said, and most horse drawn conveyances have already left the city. The capital was plunged into darkness as rebels took over the power house at Mahora, 50 miles to the west. Shlekh Abdullah, .leader of the Kashmir National Conference, ap pealed for calm, but the flight from ! Srinigar continued. Sir Hari Singh, maharajah of 1 Kashmir, is believed to be at Jammu. ( Srinigar police—unable to maintain (order in the capital—appealed for help from political parties. Border Town Razed. V. P. Menon, secretary of India’s Ministry of State—who returned by plane from Srinigar yesterday—said Moslem invaders armed with auto matic weapons had razed the moun tain border town of Muzaffarabad, 80 miles west of Srinigar, and were attacking Hindu and Sikh families. A northwest province frontier of ficial said the , Pathans also had | crossed into Gilgit, near the Soviet ■ border. i Other dispatches reported that (Indian troops had clashed with | forces of the Moslem state of Juna gadh in the Kathiawar Peninsula. Oct. 27.—Britain's royal family, after much pruning of lists1 and worrying over many necessary; exclusions, has Anally made up its' mind about Princess Elizabeth's1 wedding guests and dispatched the coveted invitations to about 2,000, it was learned today. ; For months the royal household has been combing through columns of eligiblcs, knowing that three or four times the number of persons that can be Atted into Westminster Abbey hoped to make the grade and that widespread disappointment was inevitable. The bids went out piecemeal, under a news blackout imposed by the Lord Chamberlain’s department which is in charge of this touchy side of the wedding preliminaries. Until today even the style of the invitations was an official secret but now it can be told that the in vitation is a copper-plate engraved card measuring 5 by 6 inches, with the royal arms at the top and this text following: "The Lord Chamberlain is com manded by their majesties to invite (two lines open for the name of the: lucky person) to the ceremony of the marriage of her royal highness, the Princess Elizabeth, C. I. (these initials denoting the Imperial Order of the Crown of India which she was awarded recently) with Lt. JINX FALKENBUR6, Radio and Screen Star, keeps house and keeps watch that no used fats are thrown away in her kitchen. She says: “Every pound of used fats you save helps stretch the limited supply of fats and oils needed to make things we all use every day. The govern ment says the world fat short age is still critical. That means American housewives must keep on saving. You’ll help, won’t you please?” TURN IN USeV FATS' American Fat Salvage Committea, Inc. ___■ Philip Mountbatten, Royal Navy, in! "No fear of any turndowns," com mented a Buckingham Palace offi cial, thankful for a facetious mo ment in the flurry of serious busi ness. There won’t be a chance of any i one horning in on the ceremony. Black marketers have been eager to pay small fortunes for a few of the cards, or even one of them, but they have found the invitations be ’ond their grasp and impossible to ounterfeit successfully.
