He was reported progressing satisfactorily today. —AP Wirephoto. . . - A Frank Williams Dies; Ex-Typing Champion, District Businessman Frank M. Williams, 59, who began his career at 16 as a world type writing champion and was owner ind president of the Prank M. Wil liams shorthand reporting firm here before he was 30, died of a heart at tack Monday in Stuart, Fla. He had Uvea in Stuart since his retirement two years ago. Mr. Wil liams had lived In the Washington atrefi for 56 years. His last residence here was at 1107 North Inglewood street, Arlington. For 18 years prior to his retire ment, he was a shorthand reporter for the National Mediation Board. He also had served as official re porter for congressional debates and hearings. Began Business Partnerships. He was born in Old Point Com fort, Va., and attended District public schools. His father. Joseph Williams, was a White House police sergeant. After receiving his law degree from Georgetown University, Mr. Williams went into partnership with A. H. Gait and formed the Gait & Williams shorthand reporting firm. He organized the Frank M. Williams firm about 1920 after Mr. Gait's death, with offices in the Earle Building. Mr. Williams was a deep-sea fishing and yachting enthusiast and at one time was commodore of the Corinthian Yacht Club here. He also had participated in many amateur golf tournaments in Wash ington and was a member of the Washington Golf and Country Club. Played in Several Bands. As a young man he played the cornet in bands in various Eastern cities, and once was a member of the old Roger Pryor Band. Survivors are his widow. Mrs. Margaret V. Boyr 7, Tells How Father Strangled His Mother fty th· Associated Press DENVER, Jan. 29.—A vivid de scription of his mother's death was related to newsmen last night by Robert Berger, 7, who says she was strangled by his father, John J. Berger, 30. Berger was released Monday from Colorado's State Prison where he served an arson term. The boy said he saw "daddy choking her. He said 'Hurry up and die.' " Berger was arrested yesterday near his home and held for ques tioning after his wife's body was found by a passer-by summoned by the children. A medical examiner said Mrs, Berger was strangled. Berger denied the boy's story and insisted he does not know how his wife, Pauline, 29, was strangled Tuesday in their home. They have three other children besides Robert. Depew, jr., 55, pioneer aviator who advanced from test- ! pilot to head of an aviation firm, died yesterday. Born in Plainfield, N. J., he was one of the first Americans to learn j to fly, making his first solo flight in ; 1911 after training under Maurice, Farman, famed French flyer. During the First World War he! was an Army test pilot. After being associated with Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Corp. and Fairchild Avia tion Corp. for many years, he served as head of the Taylorcraft Aviation Corp., at Alliance, Ohio, for several years. During the recent war he managed special projects for Fairchild at Hagerstown, Md.. and after the war went to Germany on a mission for the Technical Industrial Intelligence Corps. At the time of his death he was director of domestic sales for the Frank Ambrose Aviation Corp. McDonnell of St. Francis Xavier Parish last nignt vas unanimously re-elected presi dent of the Washington Section, Union of Holy Name Societies, Washington Archdiocese. The election took place during a quarterly meeting of the society In 5t. John's College auditorium, 1225 Vermont avenue N.W. Nearly 200 members were present. Principal speaker at the gathering was the Re\ Harry C. Graham, O. P., national director of the Holy Name Societies, who appealed to the Washington group "to continue the Holy Name tradition here." Father Graham, will sail April 1 for Aus tralia and New Zealand to promote Holy Name work there.
