You help the situation by trying to use less oU and gas oline. Here are some recom mendations from experts: Drive your car more slowly and less often. If you use oil heating, keep temperatures moderate—you can move your thermostat down to 68 de grees and be comfortable. (You save 3 per cent of your heating oil per degree of re duction.) When away from home turn the thermostat back—not off entirely — but back. If you intend to be away for an extended period turn it as low as 55. At night, wnen you go to bed, if the weather isn’t too bitter, you can set your thermostat back 10 to 15 degrees. If you feel chilly at 68 to 70 degrees It may be that your house lacks proper humidity. Inexpensive, automatic hu midifiers or water pans on or under your radiators will give you a more comfortable at mosphere and save fuel be sides. Turn the thermostat back when windows are opened for any length of time for airing or cleaning rooms. Check radiator valves from time to time to make sure radiators are not blocked by “dead air" at one end. Close all doors and windows to rooms not in use and unheated. Close all vents or dampers to open fire places not in use; such flues suck warm air out of rooms, Have burner adjusted and cleaned regularly for best operating efficiency. See to adequate weather - stripping ' and, if possible, install storm doors and windows. —8. B.
