WESLEY BUCHANAN } 1501 Colombia Pike CH. 1341 — OX. 2798 Chrysler Pay Raise Exceeding 35 Cents An Hour Now Sought By the Associated Pr«s DETROIT, Feb. 14.—Union rep resentatives of 70,000 Chrysler Corp. employes put the finishing touches today to pay increase demands to taling more than 35 cents an hour. They also were expected to ask Chrysler to start negotiating as soon as possible on a new wage clause for its two-^ear contract with the CIO-United Auto Workers. The UAW's national Chrysler conference set forth the demands late yesterday by adopting a reso lution amended to make them roughly 5 cents higher than those approved by the union’s Interna tional Executive Board. The board's wage policy statement called for a flat 25-cent hourly in crease, an additional 5 cents to cover health and accident benefits, adequate pension plan, improved va cations and a guaranteed weekly wage. The delegated* from 14 Chrysler plants in Michigan, Indiana and California increased the demands by announcing intention to seek a 30 cent across-the-board raise as well as all the other ■ so-called “fringe” demands. A similar group of union leaders, representing 225,000 hourly rated General Motors Coro, emnloves. voted last month, to go along with the Executive Board's policy but to sacrifice 10 of the 25 cents, if nec essary, to get a satisfactory pension system. Norman Matthews, UAW national Chrysler director and an Executive Board member, said the Chrysler demands still fell “within the union’s wage policy framework,” Both he and UAW President Wal ter P.’Reuther, who spoke to the delegates, urged against cutting the union demands because of recent - r'-ops. They contended the y market was “manipu ’ big business because of ing wage negotiations and _ j.b48 election.
