The committee decided in closed session yesterday to protest the dis missals and to ask Mr. Gray to hold them up until the committee can determine how much the per sonnel cuts will impede service to veterans. The committee said it "appreci ated efforts” of VA to keep down costs, but that firing of administra tive workers in VA field offices has cut direct service to veterans, ac cording to reports members of Con gress have received. VA has promised to furnish the committee a list of all the jobs to be cut under the new reduction by next week. Resolution Adopted. In its action yesterday, the com mittee adopted a resolution which read: "The Committee on Veterans’ Af fairs, while appreciating efforts be mg nrnuc tuwiuu txxc cwuv/iuii-ai operation of VA, directs that the administrator of veterans’ affairs, Carl R. Gray, be informed of its protest of the present reduction in force and requests that this re duction be held in abeyance until a detailed study can be affected by the committee * * * to insure that service to disabled veterans will not be seriously impaired.” Trucking Industry Aides To Meet Keneipp Tomorrow Representatives of the trucking in dustry will meet with the Commis sioners’ Traffic Advisory Board and Traffic Director George E. Keneipp tomorrow afternoon to try to solve the problem of mechanical devices for trucks operating in the District. A previous meeting several months ago was adjourned to gather additional information.
