Father Walsh Discusses living Space' With Japs ly th# Associated Press TOKYO, Mar. 4. —Nations that honestly need "living space” for overcrowded populations ought to have some way of getting it without plunging the world into war, the Rev. Edmund Walsh told the Tokyo Industry Club. He is vice president of George town University, Washington, D. C., and heads the university's School of Foreign Service. (Japan has been badly over populated for years and, despite war losses, her population is steadily increasing, observers oaj ./ "When additional space for neces sary immigration is honestly needed, when the population pressure is authentic and natural, not alleged or artificial, then appropriate nego tiations should ensue before some competent tribunal, with compen sation and protection assured to the conceding country. • • • “Otherwise, organized force could again plunge the world into reciprocal slaughter.” U. 5. Position in Palestine Is Weak, Stassen Declares i By th« Associated Press HANOVEK, N. H„ Mar. 4.—Harold1 E. Stassen says the American posi- j tion in Palestine is “very weak.” The Republican presidential as- j pirant told a rally in Berlin last i night that he did not see any way the United States could act except through the United Nations. "It would be definitely wrong,” he added, “if this country did any thing alone.” He said, however, that America should take the leadership in see ing .that the U. N. partition deci sion is carried out. Once again he proposed a U. N. police force with the United States' supplying its share of troops for j keeping order in the Holy Land, j Mr. Stassen’s comment on Pales- j tine came after he demanded that j President Truman personally inter-1 vene to stop steel prices from rising. Nursing Students' Training In High Schools Studied School officials today began look ing into complaints that District high school girls entering nursing schools are inadequately prepared because of stress on theory rather than practical application. The complaints were made by two professors at Georgetown Univer sity’s school of nursing, Dr. William r. Taylor and Dr. Richard Weber. Norman .T Nelson, first, assistant, superintendent in charge of the public high schools, said today he pill ask all high schools to report to him on girls who have gone to nursing schools to check their standing with students from other systems. Dr. Taylor said the feeling that girls came to the Georgetown nurs ing school without sufficient prepa ration had been evident for some time. As a solution, the school three years ago instituted a practical lab oratory course in pharmacology in which the student nurses get prac tical experience rather than all theory. The v weakest subjects seemed to be mathematics, chem istry and biology, he said.
