/ Episcopalians Outline Basis for Discussing Presbyterian Union ty tht Auoc>ai«d Pfeu NEW YORK, April 1—An outline of certain fundamental tenets on which the Protestant Episcopal Church is prepared to base discus sions looking toward intercom munion with the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America or with “any other inter ested Christian body” was made public here yesterday. The statement was prepared by the Protestant Episcopal joint com mission on approaches to church unity at the request of the 1946 triennial general convention of the church. The 13-page statement on faith and order is for the most part an exposition and interpretation of the so-called Chicago Quadrilateral, which originally appeared in a reply from the American bishops to a Btembeth memorial on the subject of Christian unity in 1886. Two years later the Lambeth Confer ence adopted the bishops’ reply. It then became known as the Lam beth Quadrilateral. Statement Quoted. The historic four-point statement on faith and order said: “1. The holy scriptures of the old and new testaments, as 'containing all things necessary to salvation,’ and as being the rule and ultimate standard of faith. ”2. The Apostles' Creed, as the baptismal symbol, and the Nicene Creed, as the sufficient statement of the Christian faith. ‘‘3. The two sacraments ordained by Christ himself—baptism and the supper of the Lord—ministered with unfailing use of Christ's words of institution and of the elements or dained by Him. To Be Locally Adapted. "4. The historic episcopate, locally adapted in the methods of its ad ministration to the varying needs of the nations and peoples called of God into the unity of His Church.” Officers of the joint commission on approaches to unity of the Protest ant Episcopal Church include the Right Rev. Robert E. L. Strider of Wheeling, W. Va., chairman, and the Very Rev. Alexander Z. Zabriskie of Alexandria, Va., secretary. Death of Man in Plunge From Bridge Ruled Suicide A certificate of suicide in the death of Benjamin Harrison Foster, 59, who was killed yesterday in a plunge from the. Taylor street bridge to Brookland avenue N.E., 35-feet below, was issued late yesterday by Dr. A. Magruder MacDonald, cor oner. Mr. Foster, a former filling station operator here, lived at 413 Circle avenue, Takoma Park, Md. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Louise Foster, and two sisters. Lower Cream, Cheese Prices in Prospect Here This Spring Lower cream and cheese prices may be in prospect for Washington area consumers this spring. The Maryland and Virginia Milk Producers' Association has peti tioned the Virginia Milk Commis sion for a hearing April 0 in Alex andria to consider a downward re vision in class II milk prices charged by tanners. Bruce B. Derrick, secretary-treas urer of the co-operative, said his Board of Directors decided to ask for the change because producers are moving into the period of flush milk production. He said the proposal was an op portunity for consumers “to develop a cream consumption habit.” He added the revision “is not going to hurt the producer too much." Mr. Derrick added that “we can’t take a revision in fluid milk prices as yet,” because of continued high production eorts. Class IT muk is that used for cream and cheese. Class I milk is the regular fluid milk. Class in is used for ice cream mix. Mr. Derrick promised a statement later on the actual reduction in class n milk sought by the group. If the milk commission grants the revision, it is expected that prices also will be marked down by Maryland farmers. This then would mean Washington dairies would be buying class n milk at a lower price. In the past, dairies frequent ly have passed on higher or lower wholesale prices to the consumer. However, one dairy official here said the proposed decrease would have to be “substantial" if distrib utors were to pass along the cut. Dealer to Face Quiz In Sale of Unsafe Car The Corporation Counsel’s office has summoned a used car dealer for a hearing at 1:90 p.m. tomorrow to explain the sale of a 13-year-old sedan, the unsafe condition of which led to the conviction of its owner yesterday. Prosecutor Philip Brophy said the summons was issued to the Kolb Motor Co., 5100 Georgia avenue N.W., which sold the antiquated car a week ago to Ollie Jiles, 20, colored, of the 1200 block of Irving street N.W. Jiles was freed on his personal bond, after his conviction on a charge of operating an unsafe ve hicle in the 3400 block of Benning road N.E. Policeman C. G. On closer exam ination, he found it had bad brakes, no springs, only one light, loose fenders and bumpers and that its body was resting on the axles. Judge dfeorge D. Neilson fined Jiles $30 for speeding, but withheld sentence on the safety charge with the comment that “the dealer is guiltier than the defendant.” Last week another used car dealer forfeited $50 collateral for selling an unsafe Jalopy to a motorist who appeared before Judge Neilson on the same charge as Jiles.
