PAUL ALVEY, Notary Public. 1 Model Plane Show Wins Backing of FBI, Trade Board, Police By Hari^r Lever FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, Police Chief Robert J. Barrett and the Greater National Capital Com mittee of the Washington Board of Trade yesterday extended their full support and assistance to the, third annual National Capital Model Air Show, scheduled for July 25. In a letter to The Star, Mr. Hoover declared: "I was indeed glad to learn of the sponsorship of your organiza tion, together with the Veteran of Foreign Wars and the National Airport Club, of the third annual model airplane meet at Andrews Air Force Base on July 25.” The FBI chief said that “properly supervised activities of this type, which serve as an outlet for the boundless energies of youth, play a prominent part in the lives of our youth.” • “I have long advocated the estab lishment of programs designed to utilize these energies and direct them along healthful and educa tional lines,” Mr. Hoover added. "Meetings of this kind deserve the support of all loyal and civic-minded persons who are interested In the future welfare of this country.” Hope for Success. The letter concluded with the hope that the occasion would be successful. “If I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to communicate with me,” Mr. Hoover said. Maj. Barrett said the non-profit model air show represents an im portant step forward in progressive youth movement here. “The value to the community of competition such as the National Capital Model Air Show is great,” Maj. Barrett asserted. “I would like to see more events like this and I hope it always will be a yearly feature on Washington’s calender of summer attractions.” In his statement, Joseph C. Mc Garraghy, a past president of^the Washington Board of Trade, and chairman of its Greater National Capital Committee, said: “The Greater National Capital Committee has watched with keen interest the remarkable growth of the National Capital Model Air Show.” Hard Work Responsible. In adding that each year “the attendance and entry records are broken,” Mr. McGarraghy empha sized that “this has not just hap pened.” “Hard work by those organiza tions sponsoring th}p worthwhile event has been the chief factor,” he said. He commented that the show “now enjoys the reputation as one of the principal civic and tourist attractions.” “Hie importance of keeping the youth of this nation actively inter ested in all aspects of aviation is quite apparent,” Mr. McGarraghy said. “This is not only to insure the supply of future generals but to teach youth the important rule of fair play so long associated with the air world." In concluding, Mr. McGarraghy said, “Hie Greater National Capi tal Committe pledges its complete cooperation and support of this popular event.” G. W. U.
