Rogers The disputed nomination of Edward A. Tamm, FBI official, to be a District Court justice, will be considered by a Senate Judiciary subcommittee in executive session at 3 p.m. Monday. Senator Donnell, Republican, o'! Missouri, subcommittee chairman, said today he could not predict when the group will reach a vote on the nominee. At the end of an all-day hearing yesterday, the Senator announced his unit will make a study of the testimony submitted during several lengthy sessions and will try to de cide "where we go next." Record To Be Kept Open. The official record of the commit tee will be kept open, until Satur day noon, he said, for submission of fritten statements. Other members of the subcommit tee are Senators Cooper, Republican, of Kentucky, and Kilgore, Demo crat, of West Virginia. Witnesses from Minnesota occu pied the stand all day yesterday to describe how Mr. Tamm was ad itted to practice law In that State. They included Chief Justice C. A. Losing of the State Supreme Court, which admitted Mr. Tamm to prac tice in July, 1943; Philip Neville, secretary of the State Board of Bar Examiners, and Victor Anderson, United States attorney at Minne apolis. Mr. Tamm also testified at length. Admitted to State Bar. Judge Loring said Mr. Tamm was admitted to- the Minnesota bar on the basis of evidence pointing to his character and ability, and because of a letter from Mr. Tamm, indi cating he intended to return to es tablish residence there in the State of his birth. Mr. Anderson testified he had in dorsed Mr. Tamm's application to practice before the United States Supreme Court. Testimony showed Mr. Tamm was admitted to the State bar without examination, under a rule admitting applicants who are law school graduates or who stand high in their senior class and who had joined either the armed forces or the FBI. Senate Group Advances I Two District Church Bills Two House-passed bills dealing with church affairs here were re ported favorably yesterday by the McGrath subcommittee of the Sen-: ate District Committee. One would permit the Protestant Episcopal Cathedral Foundation to increase the number of its trustees from 15 to 30. The other would establish the Catholic Archbishop of Washington, the Most Rev. Pat rick A. O’Boyle, as a corporation to handle church business affairs in the archdiocese. Chairman Miller of the Health Subcommittee of the House District ■ Committee announced his group will meet at 10 a m. next Wednes day to consider bills to extend Gov ernment aid to hospitals not par ticipating in the Washington Hos pital Center and to assure Govern ment rights to collect bills from nonpaying emergency cases w'ho are compensated for their injuries.
