'Oil Trust' Threatens Farmers' Prosperity, Wallace Declares ly th« A»»ociot»d Press DES MOINES, Iowa, April 29 — Henry A. Wallace says the "oil trust” and war plans threaten the American farmers’ prosperity. Mr. Wallace called for farmer sup port of his third party presidential campaign and for a "realistic inven tory” of our Russian relations. The State Department, he said last night, should uncover "the is sues and the real reasons” in the cold war with Russia as a means of making a peace treaty with the Soviets. Mr. Wallace also contradicted a Communist” chara£by CIO Presi dent Philip Murray against the third party, and called on President Truman to force the ending of the Nation-wide meat strike through ar bitration. The former Democratic Vice President fired away yesterday on these and many other subjects in rally speeches, radio broadcasts, news conferences and statements made at Iowa City and in his home town, Des Moines. During his automobile tour, con tinuing today at Oskaloosa, Iowa, and tonight at Cedar Rapids, he came close to getting hit by two eggs. He later collected $3,172 from a home-town crowd of about 1,700, and publicly "wondered about Mid dle West complacency.” Two bystanders at an Iowa City park were^ splattered yesterday when eggs Sailed over Mr. Wallace's head and hit them at a University of Iowa rally. Mr. Wallace just, grinned and continued posing for pictures of him with a baby in his arms. At a Des Moines rally last night he said the "oil trust more than any other groun is responsible for today’s world trouble spots.” He said farmers were paying ex cessive prices for oil and their other needs because of war profiteering and preparations” and that they were likely to lose more. “War hysteria," he said, threatens Federal farm aid, flood control and marketing programs and will draft sons and hired hands of farmers.
