Ross said the address wfll be a “Democratic political speech” on domestic issues. It will be televised, and broadcast over the NBC, ABC and CBS net works, starting at 10:30 pm. Mr. Truman’s political advisers have been urging extemporaneous speeches in the belief that he does better when he does not read from a manuscript. This procedure will be followed by the President in his frequent platform appearances planned dur ing a railroad trip across the coun try starting June 3. Chavez Sees Recognition Solving Palestine Crisis By th« Associated Press NEW YORK, May 14.— Senator Chavez, Democrat, of View Mexico said last night the Jewish-Arab trouble could be solved if President Truman named an American Am bassador to Palestine tomorrow, when the British leave. Senator Chavez spoke at a Madi son Square Garden meeting of the Fighters for a Free Palestine. He said the American policy on Palestine is dictated by the oil in dustry, and demanded an investiga tion of the State Department which, he said, “should be made acquainted with the facts of life.” Senator Chavez said oil is obtain able much nearer home—in Mexico. He Said that of more importance to the United States than oil would be "a modern, progressive, demo cratic state in Palestine” as a for eign base in case of war with Russia. German Paintings Put On Display in New York By the Associated Press NEW YORK, May 14.—An Army guard brought 148 art masterpieces from Washington yesterday for dis | play at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The paintings, all from Berlin museums, are part of a cache found in salt mines in Merkers, Germany, toward the end of the war. The Washington exhibit at the ! National Gallery of Art drew nearly 1,000,000 visitors. The collection will be exhibited here for four weeks, starting Monday. The paintings will be returned to Germany after they have been shown in a tour of this country.
