Influential Senators said privately they want the amendment aimed at noncomplying unions instead of union members. Lengtny Battle rossiDie. Under the Senate plan. Govern ment officials would be directed to refuse negotiations with any union whose leaders have not signed the non-Communist pledge. Members of the union could collect Govern ment pay but the union could not act as a bargaining agent. Senators supporting the change conceded it might touch off a ; lengthy end-of-session fight be tween the two chambers on all House-passed money bills. The revision was suggested after some Senate members noted that the House amendment could cut off publication of the Congressional Record. Labor Has Protested Measure. Some 1,600 members of the In ternational Typographical Union I work in the Government Printing Office, where the Record is pub I lished. ITU leaders are among those t who have refused to sign the non Communist pledge. Both CIO and AFL spokesmen have protested the amendment be fore Senate Appropriations sub committees as unfair to thousands of union members who want their leaders to comply with the labor act. Senator Knowland, Republican, of California—who already has indi cated he would approve some change—told a reporter the first test probably will come when the Senate debates a bill carrying funds for the Federal Security Agency and Labor Department. The House plan was sponsored by Representative Keefe, Republican, of Wisconsin. It has been attached to every appropriation bill passed since April 29. Bandit Sought by Police In $50 Plaza Hotel Holdup Police today trere seeking an armed bandit who held up the room clerk at the plaza Hotel, 331 First street N.E., early today and escaped with about $50. George V. Showers, 54, the clerk, said the bandit entered the lobby about 5 o'clock and asked for change for a $20 bill. “I got suspicious and he pulled a gun and told me to hand it oyer,” Mr. Showers said.
