Vernon University Income $60 Monthly, Minister Tells FTC The entire income of Mount Ver non University, 2301 Calvert street N.W., from students in the years 1942 to 1944 inclusive, was never more than $60 a month, the Rev. Samuel L. Lacey, jr., who kept the I books of the institution, testified yesterday at a Federal Trade Com mission hearing. Mr. Lacey is One of the re spondents in an FTC complaint against the institution, alleging it is not a bona-fide university, that j it sells honorary degrees for $50 each and that, while not allowed to issue degrees here because of lack of academic accreditation, it issues them from Fort Worth under a Texas charter granted an institu tion of the same name. Davis of Mount Rainier, Md., who was paid $150 a month for a few months, but could not live on it and had to return to his job at the Library of Congress. Dr. Walter A. Leas, a dental sur geon who owns the building at 2301 Calvert street N.W., in which his of fice is located, testified he had never charged any rent for the space in the building used by the university.
