S„ SL. tlM < < Four Army Chaplains Lost on Dorchester Eulogized for Heroism Pour Army chaplains who went down heroically with the transport Dorchester off Greenland five years ago were eulogized yesterday at a luncheon sponsored by the National Conference of Christians and Jews. The luncheon followed White House ceremonies, at which Presi dent Truman and close relatives of the four chaplains were given sheets of the commemorative 3-cent stamps honoring their heroism. The luncheon, held in the Willard Hotel, was attended by relatives of the men, who were posthumously awarded Distinguished Service crosses. Among these were the widow of the Rev. George L. Fox, of Sharon, Vt.; Daniel L. Poling, jr„ brother of the Rev. Clark V. Poling of Philadelphia; Mrs Anne Schwoe bel, sister of the Rev. John Wash ington of Newark, N. J., and the widow of Rabbi Alexander Goode of Washington. The four men, representing two Protestant denominations, and the Jewish and Catholic faiths died after turning over their life belts to men unable to reach other belts. They joined hands in prayer as the ship was sinking. The story, subsequently told by survivors, was subjected to extensive investigation and corrobration by the War Department, and the post 55 Michigan Ave. N.E. Sea Scouts Sail Today On Training Cruise A group of about 30 sea scouts and four officers from the District area was to leave from the pier at 450 Maine avenue S.W., at noon today for a holiday week-end training cruise to Colonial Beach. They will sleep aboard their ves sel, the 75-foot Coast Guard cutter Lexington, and are due to return to the District on Monday. The boys range in age from 15 to 18. Victor H. Kramer, Government trial attorney, indicated yesterday that, after checking the transcript of the testimony for points to be covered, he may not present addi tional witnesses when the trial is re sumed on Tuesday. Before the jury of seven men and five women was excused yesterday Justice Edward M. Curran called counsel to the bench for a confer ence. What transpired there was not disclosed. William E. Leahy, attorney for the Washington board, insisted what was said at the bench conference was not part of the record of the case. Mr. Kramer, who was seen to smile as the conference broke up, likewise declined to reveal what had been discussed. The Canadian Niagara, or Horse j shoe Falls, are about 155 feet high. National Gallery Lecture Set On Early American Glass A. lecture on “Early American Glass” will be given at 5 pm. tomor row in the National Gallery of Art. Erwin O. Christensen of the gal lery staff will trace the history of blown, cut and pressed glass in this country. The lecture will be illus trated with slides. The concluding concert in the gal lery’s Fifth American Music Festi val will oe presented at 8 p.m. to morrow by the National Gallery Orchestra, under direction of Rich ard Bales.
