It deferred action until 1950. The recommendation was for a window to be placed in the Episco pal Cathedral of Ss. Peter and Paul in Washington, known as the Na tional Cathedral. It was defeated for this session after spirited dis cussions involving the quick and the dead, religious affiliations and rel ative benefits to the cause for peace between a window symbolizing peace and money spent rehabilitating war torn peoples. The vote ended yesterday's busi ness session at Will Rogers Audi torium one half day behind schedule. Reports of the Nominating Commit tee were made by Dr. Mirle L. Maffett, Dallas, chairman. There were no nominations from the floor, i Candidates were presented to the delegates from the stage by Miss Sally Butler, national president. As soon as the auditorium ses sion closed delegates hurried to Hotel Texas for closed hearings on eight resolutions and for campaign ing for their favorite federation candidates. State and local federations ang ling for the 1949 board meeting and the 1950 convention and supporting their favorite-daughter candidates continued a series of pre-election parties. The recommendation for the memorial window was presented bv Miss Chari Ormond Williams of Washington, chairman of the Me morial Committee. Theme of the window "Women of the World” would suggest activities of women throughout the ages, and a book of donors and a book of remem brance will be placed near the window. Approximate cost of the project, she said, would be $75,000 Francis S. Obold, D. C. Mob Slays Assassin Of Haitian Publisher By tht Associated Press PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti, July 7.—A Haitian publisher was slain yesterday in a downtown street. A short time later angry mobs wrested his alleged assassins from police and killed him. A government communique said Jean Remy, director of the official government newspaper Le Moniteur and owner of the newspaper La Republique, was shot three times as he stepped from his car. He died later in a, hospital. Police immediately arrested Ger-1 aid Viau, described as a young poet and member of a government family who nursed a grudge after losing a scholarship recently. The government charged him with the shooting. Police took Viau to a government printing office for questioning. They said a mob forced its way into the office, overpowered them and shot Viau several times. He died in a hospital a few minutes later.i Why Mountain Valley Water > Is Recommended for ARTHRITIS. McCioy, World Bank presi dent, says Marshall Plan countries are determined to reduce tariffs and establish stable and convertible I currencies. He told the Mount Holyoke In stitute on the United Nations last i night that the most encouraging aspect of the European Recovery Program “is the determination ex I pressed by Marshall Plan countries to integrate their economies." "Great influences are at work, particularly in Western Europe.” he said, “to build a more unified and more rational economic structure than existed before World War II.” He said that ERP funds will go mainly for imports of food, raw ma terials and other goods during the first few years. The World Bank, he added, prob ably will concentrate on specific pro ductive projects. Mr. McCloy said that the amount of European production revived and ! the degree of integration of national economies accomplished will, in the SMnmiMnannKMMHmEiiiiMHHnBMHHi long run, be the test of the ERP's success.
