U. S. Warships Move
Under Secret Orders
In Mediterranean

'ROME, July 7.—American war
ships In the Mediterranean were on
the move today.

'the aircraft carrier Coral Sea sailed
for Gibraltar and the battleship
Missouri for Algiers. The Coral Sea
was accompanied by the destroyers
Dyess and Bordelon and the Mis
souri by the destroyers Leary and
Vesole. The ships will assemble off
Gibraltar in five days and sail for
Cuba and the United States.

will havp to come from Washing
ton." a spokesman said. “We have

In Washington, the Navy said
yesterday that movements of seven
of its fighting ships in the Mediter
ranean have “absolutely nothing to
do with Palestine."
Reports had suggested that the
ship departures from Italy and
Turkey were connected with the
Palestine situation.

The influence of the “new' look"
in soap slogan contests was ex
plained here last night by Mrs.
Helen King, whose occupation is
judging popular competition.
She told how the trend in low
ered hemlines usually eliminates
about. 25 per cent of the contestants,
because, even though they live in all
parts of the country, their minds
appear to work the same on the
subject.
For instance, she added, most of
the 25 per cent might comp through
with close variations of something
like "this soap gives you that new
look that makes you look new'.”
With no more originality than
that, they're out as winners, leav
ing 75 r>er cent in the running.
Of the latter figure, about two
thirds are disqualified for breaking
rules, and the remaining 25 per cent
qualify as finalists.

95 Traffic Tickef Cases
Adjusted in Past Week
A total of 95 traffic tickets were
adjusted last week, including 90
warnings and five cancellations, po
lice reported yesterday.
Among those who received warn
ings was James K. Vardaman, Jr.,
! Federal Reserve System governor
1 and former Presidential aide. Police
said they adjusted Mr. Vardanian's
parking ticket because he had a
"clear record."
Ticket adjustments by precincts
were as follows: No. 1 Precinct, 11
, warnings, no cancellations; No. 2
5 and 0; No. 3, 5 and 2; No. 4, 9
and 1; No. 5. 3 and 0; No. 6, 5 and 0;
No. 7, 4 and 0; No. 8. 5 and 0; No.
9, 4 and 0; No. 10, 8 and 0; No. 11,

10; Harbor, none; Traffic Division,
122 and 2. The No. 14 Precinct,
