The Young Progressives of Mary land said It sponsored yesterday’s outing purposely to test the park board’s segregation rules. The group is a branch of Henry A. Wallace’s third party. Park officials said they Informed the whites who obtained permits for use of the courts that no mixed matches would be allowed. Capt. Gordon Gaeng of the Park Police was on had when play started. Capt. Gaeng said he twice ordered j the matches broken up and when he | got no response he called city po-1 lice. A score of the players sat down on the courts when police arrived and refused to move. The police carried most of them bodily to patrol tvagons. More than 500 spectators hurled taunts at the police and later staged a demon stration outside police headquarters. Police booked seven of the 24 per sons on disorderly conduct charges as well as for refusal to obey park police. Thirteen of those booked are Negroes and seven are women. At first denied a visa to leave Myilla because of a ban on the entry of lepers into the United States, the little Filipino finally was admitted after a special ruling from Attorney General Clark. Her room here was numbered 13, but she thought it would be lucky for her. "I am going to get well now that I am here and can get treatment from sulfone drugs,” she said. The flower-filled room had a red. white and blue scarf, made by a fellow patient, which read: “Wel come Joey.” It was a "Joey” that Mrs. Guer rero was known to American sol diers she helped in fighting the Japanese in the Philippines. The United States Government awarded United States Army chief of staff; Under Secretary of the Army Draper, Navy Secretary Sullivan, Army Secretary Royal, Canadian External Affairs Minister St. Laur ent, and Canadian Defense Minister Claxton.
