WAVE Commander, Assigned Here in War, Slain on Seattle Street •y tho Associated Press SEATTLE, July 15.—A 41-year old lieutenant commander in the WAVES, Margaret Jones, senior WAVES commander for the 13th Naval District, was shot and killed half a block from her home as she left for work yesterday. Vernon Allen. 42, was in critical condition in Harborview County Hospital with a bullet wound in the head. Detective Austin Seth of the Seattle police homicide detail said Miss Jones’ roommate, Esther Jones tnot a relative), gave this account of the shooting: Man Shoots Himself. Jones was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Jones of Spokane, and that she was a junior high school teacher in .Seattle be fore entering the Navy. Assigned to Office Here. Comdr. Jones was assigned to the Navy Hydrographic Office here from December, 1942 to August, 1946. As assistant to the personnel • officer, she was in charge of all enlisted WAVES and she also served as liaison officer between the Hydro graphic Office, the Navy Bureau of Personnel and the WAVE barracks. When she was transferred to the West Coast in 1946 she was given a letter of appreciation for outstanding performance of her duties, according: to Navy records.
