Mr. Gumbin’s son, Owen, 19, who was riding in his father’s car to their home, was not hit by the shot. It was fired by one of two men in a car which pulled up along side Mr. Gum bin's sedan as he slowed for a traffic light at Ntihan Gambia. Pershing Road and Wallace street. Policeman James Webster, who was driving directly In front of Mr. Gumbin In Pershing Road, said the gunmen drove to the left of Mr. Gumbln's machine as he stopped for the red light. One of the killers poked a shotgun through the side window and fired. The blast shat tered Mr. Gumbln's head. The kill ers sped north on Wallace Street as young Gumbin leaped from his father’s car and shouted for help. As police hunted the assassins, they said members of the victim's family could give no motive for the slaying. Mr. Gumbin wax part owner and president of the General Fiber Co. and its subsidiary the Genueral Carton Co., which em ployes about 60 workers. Mr. Gum Bin and his brother, Herman, of Grand Rapids, Mich., also were co owners of the Rockford Paper Mills in Rockford, Mich. The slaying occurred a few hours before Nathan Gumbin, who was 56 yesterday, was to have been guest of honor at a birthday party at a night club. The party was to have been attended by his brother, his sons, Owen and Jack, 23, his wife. Blossom, 53, and other relatives and friends. Special Session Urged To Act on Home Rule A resolution asking that Congress "act favorably” on the Auchincloss bill for home rule In the District during the special session was adopted last night by the Central Suffrage Conference of Washington. Conference President Wilbur S. Fineh called a meeting of trustees and officers of the group at 700 Jackson place N.W., to renew the campaign for local suffrage.
