County Weighs Offer Of Brokers for Bonds In Absence of Bids Prince Georges County commis fioners today hoped to overcome yesterday’s failure to receive com petitive bids for the purchase of $650,000 in bonds by completing ne gotiations for their sale with either of two brokerage firms. The firms, one in Baltimore and the other in New York City, submit ted tentative proposals to the com missioners yesterday after the 11 a.m. deadline passed without any bids being offered. Punds obtained through the sale of the bonds are slated to be used for continuing street construction within the metropolitan district' of the county and towards erection of a new building, near Magruder Park, Hyattsvilie. The latter structure would house Jointly the Prince Georges County office of the Mary land-National Capital Park and Planning commission and the coun ty engineer’s office. Agreement Expected Today. Tentative proposals were present ed by the two brokerage firms dur ing a closed session with the com missioners at Upper Marlboro. Wil liam A. Carson, chairman of the Board of Commissioners, would not reveal details of their offers, pend ing an agreement expected to be reached some time today. Both of the firms' proposals were the same, he reported. The board chairman refused to speculate as to the reason for no bids being submitted, but said he did not believe the maximum in terest rate of 3 per cent, as set by Maryland law, was a factor. A total of 650 bonds, each with a par value of $1,000, had been of fered for sale. They would be pay able semiannually and would ma ture consecutively over a period of 25 years, starting in 1949. Mr. Carson said the commissioners would consider the matter further, following their monthly zoning hearings today at the County Serv ice Building, Hyattsvilie. During the zoning sessions, 16 aplications for comercial zoning and three for apartment use were to be considered. Besides today's session, the com missioners also announced they would meet tomorrow for the third straight day to hold routine hear ings at Upper Marlboro on tax as sessments against new buildings of the county: After the tax hearings, the commissioners, sitting as a po lice board, also will interview candi dates for the county police force, who passed the recent written ex aminations. Survey Ordered. In othei*action, the commissioners instructed County Engineer Arthur W. Tayman to make a survey and prepare specifications for proposed street and storm drainage con struction in Special Improvement District No. 31. Boulevard Heights. Installation of additional street lights in Special Improvement Dis trict No. 1, which is comprised of the Aovndale, Avondale Terrace, North Woodridge and Volland Ter race subdivisions, also was author ized. The Boulevard Heights’ action was authorized after a large delega tion of residents from the area had occupied a major portion of the commissioners’ time yesterday re porting their need for such im provements. A resolution vesting the right to issue licenses for outdoor advertis ing with the Maryland-Washington regional district of the county with the Maryland - National Capital Park and Planning Commission also was adopted. A portion of the fees charged for such licenses will be returned to the county, the com missioners w'ere informed. Acceptance of the Bowie Rescue Squad as an active unit of the county's fire department and res cue squad system also was approved by the commissioners. Similar ac tion was taken earlier by the County Volunteer Firemen’s Association. A dance permit for an eating and drinking establishment at 4008 Central avenue.
