Shortage of Teachers

LEESBURG, Va., Sept. 7.—
Loudoun County public schools will
be faced with a teacher shortage
when they open Thursday, School
Superintendent O. L. Emerick said.
Vacancies exist in the interme
diate grades at Lucketts and the
mathematics class at Aldie High
School. A teachers' institute to or
ganize the work for the session will
be held tomorrow.

LA GRANGE, Ga., Sept. 7.—Four
men parachuted from a burning
B-29 Army bomber yesterday and
three landed alive on the ground
0,000 feet below.
The fourth, Prof. H. W. Baldwin
of the University of Chicago, a
cosmic ray research worker, hurtled
to his death by a small creek a mile
from Evansville, Ga., near the ‘Ala
bama State line. His parachute had
failed to open.
The four bailed out after the
pilot, MaJ. Richard Baker of In
yokem, Calif., called to his pas
sengers to leap from the plane to
escape a fire that sent smoke swirl
ing into the craft.

Dodge of Chatham, N. J„ and Ra
muld Anthony of Inyokern.
All three were able to aid in the
search for Prof. Baldwin’s body.
Edward Fincher, an Evansville
farmer, and Dewey Dodgen of
Standing Rock, Ala., a carpenter,
found the body hours after the
men leaped from the plane.
