Cleveland, general manager of the District division of tne American Automobile Associ ation. wants all 16 Washington high schools to put in courses in prac tical automobile driving to cut traf fic accidents and keep step with pro gressive communities. The principal speaker and guest of honor at yesterday’s weekly luncheon of Almas Temple at the Sphinx Club, 1315 K street N.W., Mi. Cleveland declared: “The Dis trict is way behind many other parts of the country in this program.” Mr. Cleveland told his audience there are 19 courses of driver opera tion and training in the high schools in the Washington area, but only two in the District school system. Board of Education officials said such courses were given at Bell and Chamberlain Vocational High School at Thirteenth street and Potomac avenue SJ5. Nearly all Washington civic groups, including the Board of Trade* have indorsed the high school automobile driving courses, Mr. Cleveland said. He expressed the hope it will not be too long until the authorities here see their way clear to putting the courses in all Washigton high schools. G.
