Secrest of Ohio got his old place in the House last November by defeating the Re publican incumbent. P. W. Grif fiths. Mr. Secrest. 45, a Democrat, represents the 15th District, as he did during five terms prior to his entrance on active duty in the Navy. He held the rank of commander while in service. He is one of many members of Congress who hold law' degrees, but there was an unusual feature to his earning it. Mr. Secrest attended Washington College of Law here during his previous period in the House, and he was graduated in 1939. Previously, in 1926, he was graduated from Muskingum Col lege, New Concord, Ohio. He was born near Senacavllle, Ohio, where he still makes his home, and at tended the Senaca High School before going to college. After re ceiving his degree, ne went back to the high school as principal. He held this post for four years House Votes to Continue lour of Freedom Train Continuation of the Freedom Train tour now aw'aits Senate ac tion. following House approval yesterday of a resolution to make operation of the document-loaded train a Government project until July 5, 1951. The Archivist of the United States would be authorized to spend up to $3,000,000 to acquire and run the train. It has been estimated $2,500,000 would cover the costs. The House action came on a voice vote with no nays heard. During the debate, however, Representative Ford, Republican, of Michigan, pointed out com munities had raised funds to help finance the tour that ended last month. The train had been sponsored by the American Heri tage Foundation, which ended last month. He suggested other places desiring visits by the train also should be willing to provide money by public subscription. REPRESENTATIVE SECREST. —Harris-Ewing Photo.
