I have a very short, wide face and some one told me to place tne rouge at the out side near the temples. I look bet ter without any coloring than this way. What is wrong?” A. You are doing it Just back wards. Rouge emphasizes the spot in which you place it. Therefore when you put it far away from the nose, it makes the face look wider. You are following the rule for the thin face. Place the rouge close to your nose, or .toward The center. This will slim it. Q "Is there any remedy for ‘furrows’ or frowning lines? This spoils many otherwise lovely faces. Lubricating creams are of no I avail.” A. It doesn't do much good- if you lubricate the skin and then continue frowning. Break your self of this habit. Watch it con stantly. It may inhibit your per sonality for a time but soon you will lose the habit. Apply an oily cream at night and massage along the line. Wipe the excess cream off and smooth the furrow out, afterwards applying one of the paper or rubber wrinkle-removing adhesives now available. Lea e it on all night. You will greatly minimize the line if you do this. Q. “I would like to know how to darken my eyebrows. My hair is blond and my eyebrows are al most white.” A. Use an eyebrow pencil in brown. Use short feathery strokes, not a dark line. Of course jou can have the brows dyed but If you do be sure you have a compe tent operator and take an allergy test first. Q. "I have been a reader of your column for quite a while and I am sending you my measurements and would like for you to tell me if I am correctly proportioned I am 14 years old; 5 feet, 1 inch tall, and weigh 92 pounds. My bust measures 32 inches; waist, 22*4 inches, and hips, 31 inches.” A. You are underweight and should gain about 10 pounds any way. Your proportions are all right. Gain this weight for health’s sake. You probably also will look lovelier. Q. ”1 am 42 years old and my nusband says I lock older when I lift my head because the skin under my chin pulls tightly. What can I do?” A. I belong to the "head back” school of thought about the chin line. The spine settles and short ens as we grow older and the mus cles atrophy without exercise. I advise you to do this exercise. Sit in a chair, or stand erect. Lower you head backward as far as you can, feeling the full under your chin. Raise your head and tuch your chi nto yout chest Continue.__ Sandwiches Rye bread or pumpernickle sandwiches, are delicious with* a filling that features ripe olhws, ham and cottage cheese. To ihake it, measure about three-quarters cup of the olives, then cut the olives from the pits in rather large pieces. Mix the olives with three quarters cup of ground cooked ham, three-quarters cup of creamed cottage cheese and may onnaise or creamy salad dressing to taste. These amounts will make about one and three-quar ters cups of sandwich filling. Sandals for— Cool Comfort By Eleni Fashion Mltor : Those women who wore golden sandals last sum mer weren't being so new about it! The Emperor Nero wore gold sandals, although he made his wife, Empress Poppaea, stick to silver. Sandals are one of the oldest coverings for the human foot. They are also about the simplesffh des ign, being based pri nrkjrily on the idea of a sole attached to the foot byk leather thongs. Climate dictates to,.a.4 large measure a many of the fashions that are popular in a city. Washington's humid sum mers seem ideally suited for the wearing of this type of shoe. Our pictured sandals ore designed by Bernard Rudofsky, architect turned shoe designer, who be lieves that women should go back to nature and give it a chance to restore health and beauty to the feet. His sandals are created on a new prin ciple that allows the foot complete freedom and flexibility and reveals its beauty. If you have beautiful feet then these so/idals are for you. * If you possess not-so-beau tiful feet there are also sandals to help bring your feet back to their nat ural beauty* Another point in the sandals' favor is that they are versatile little things that may be worn with swirling skirts or bathing togs. With older people he gets along nicely, especially if they are doing some thing to which he can lend a hand. When father is cleaning the car he stays by to hand what ever is needed and do a good Job of polishing. His teachers liks him but his playmates don’t. There is sure to be a scrap when 1 he joins the game. When somebody interferes and says, “Stop this fighting. Can’t you play even one game without getting into such an argument that the whole neighborhood is upset? Either play or get into the house.” “It's Pete. He always wants to boss everybody.” “ ’Tis not. I only want to play fair and you cheat every time.” There is nothing to do but take Pete into the house and scold and scold and point out how he will never have any friends, etc., etc. Then Pete sees a neighbor raking the lawm and asks if he can go i help. There is peace in Pete’s I quarter for the rest of the after- 1 noon. ! Boys of 8 and 9 do more quar reling, more arguing about a game, go into more huddles and yelling each other down, than they play. They have not yet reached the place where they can understand • organized play in which the indl- 1 vidual is subordinated to the team. Pete probably is ahead of them , there and the two ways of think- j ing do not harmonize. Pete does well when the activity is ordered, organized and the workers know J where they are going and how they are to get there. Until the other boys reach Pete’s stage of growth or he far outdis tances them and works into an other group of boys whose devel opment equals his oWn, there will be this trouble with Pete. It is better to direct him to those with whom he can work harmoniously than to try to force him into co operation with those he has out distanced. Children are happiest when they fit into a group, but because j each grows at his own rate of J speed there will be odd ones who, I at some period of their lives, do ! not fit in. Instead of trying to force them to slow down or speed i up, it is best to withdraw them j and try to fit them into the group I with whom they are in accord.
