Mrs. Tracy Explains Plan to Teach Deaf Education of parents in teach ing their deaf children how best to overcome their handicap was ■tressed here last night by Mrs. Bpencer Tracy, wife of the screen actor, during a lecture at Catholic University. In speaking in McMahon Hall auditorium, Mrs. Tracy also laid emphasis on association of objects as a means of easing the education of the handicapped youngsters. She reviewed the system used by the John Tracy Clinic in Los Angeles, which treats children in that city and environs and brings its techniques to others through out the country through corre spondence courses. The clinic's | service Is free. It was founded by Mrs. Tracy and 12 other mothers of deaf children. Mrs. Tracy's son John, 24. was born without hearing. The courses, as far as possible, are individually adapted to the special needs of the child, she said,-and about 600 deaf children are receiving training through the mail alone. The lecture was a special fea ture of the second Institute for ' the Preparation of Teachers for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, now being held at Catholic Uni versity. Mrs. Tracy was introduced by the Rev. Francis T. Williams of Fordham University, who is one of six specialists conducting the institute. Zoners Disallow Height Exception for School The Board of Zoning Adjust ment yesterday turned down a request for an exception to the height restrictions in the proposed construction of a school and con vent back of the Church of the Assumption. Nichols avenue and Highview place S.E. Permission had been sought to build the *300.000 structure seven feet higher than the 40-foot limit. [The building is planned to ac commodate 500 children in the school and nine sisters in the convent.
