Oct. 8.—Eastern and Western Germans signed today a 600,000,000 West mark ($138,000,000) trade deal cutting across the political lines drawn by their rival governments, j Bookkeepers will handle the problems created by the fact Eastern and Western Germany have different currencies. The West mark, cut recently from 30 to 23 cents, is highly regarded. The East mark is worth about a sixth of the West mark. The barter agreement was signed by representatives of Ger man economic bodies created be fore the establishment of the Western and Eastern German re publics, the former governed by Conservatives and the latter by Communists. Kotikov Recall Expected. Western Allied sources said they expected the Russians to recall their “no” man, Maj. Gen. Alex I ander Kotikov, and abolish his [ command in Berlin now that Ger man Communists have set up the East zone regime. It was reported the move may be announced when the Russians formally recognize the new satel lite government Tuesday. With drawal of occupation troops from East Berlin is expected within 14 days. The British and American zones will ship East 335,000 tons of Ruhr Iron and steel, various manufactured goods, machine tools, chemical products, rubber, textiles and optical goods. The Soviet zone will pay with mine pit props, timber, farm products, mineral oils, chemicals and brown coal. No money will change hands under the agreement, which calls for the movement of 300,000,000 West marks worth of products in each direction by June 30, 1950. Symbol of Soviet Squeeze. Gen. Kotikov, white-haired commandant of the Soviet sector, is virtually the symbol of Russian squeeze tactics against the West. In days when the four-power commandants were meeting in Berlin, he set some kind of re cord one afternoon by saying “no” to 14 various proposals of the Americans, British and French. The East German Communists, having set up the government in a swift session in East Berlin yes terday, embarked on a busy week end of conferences to prepare the formalities of inducting Wilhelm Pieck as president and Otto Grotewohl as chancellor for 20, 000,000 Soviet zone Germans Wednesday.
