Hecht Co. Discloses New Sales Record For Fiscal Year' 1 ly Edward C. Stone . Net sales of the Hecht Co. ad vanced to an all-tirtie high of! $84,029,671 . in the year ending! January 31. a gain of 1.6 per cent ! over sales of $82.709003 for 1946. The annual report, out to day, revealed nr> earnings of $3,894,100. an 1 i ncrca.se of $198,279 above the $3,695,821 in the previous year and equal to $4.94 per share on the common stock against $4.67 in Mr- H'cM 1948. Net profit on each dollar of sales was 4.6 cents compared with 4.5 cents a year ago. Regent sales show a steady expansion in dollar volume. President Samuel M. Hecht announced. Hecht stores tallied 1,022,816 more Individual transactions than a year ago. or 14.064.354 sales checks, a gain of 8 per cent. The *verage sales check dropped from $7 for 1948 to $6.62 for 1949. Fed eral taxes amounted to $3.25 a common share. Net working capital Increased $2,027,280 to total $25,381,966 at the end of the year, a gain equal to $2.71 a common share. Bank loans of $750,000 were paid off and plans made lor reducing the long- \ term debt by $210,000 in 1950.1 Total assets rose from $27,778,486! to $30,375,876. Aside from these two croups gains were mainly fractional. Fa vored issues, though moved up an extreme of around two points. Selected shares found the going a little rough, notably rubbers and ! chemicals. Business hit a fast pace from the start, with aircraft and TV7 issues accounting for more than their share of the turnover. TV stocks were among the hard est hit yesterday when a short lived selling blast knocked down leaders during the morning. A somewhat timid rally developed later in the day. Aircrafts showed independent strength. Amercan Telephone was a strong spot following the comparatively sharp setback of 1% points Mon day. About half the loss was made up. Others higher included Boeing, Douglas Aircraft, United Aircraft, Lockheed, Consolidated Vultee, Emerson Radio, Philco. Zenith, Radio Corp.. United States Steel, Sears. Sinclair operates strip mines in Northern Illinois, Missouri, Okla homa, Kansas, Iowa, Alabama and Western Kentucky. Its main of fice is in Kansas City Mo. Southern is a marketing firm. Last year it handled 5 million tons of coal from the East and from Northern Illinois and West ern Kentucky. It also sells coal stoves and heaters. Chicago is its headquarters.
