Veterans Again in Service Warned on Overpayments
The Veterans Administration
today asked World War II vet
erans who enlist or are recalled
Into the armed forces to make
sure they do not receive over
payments from the Government.
Veterans who get disability
compensation or subsistence al
lowance are barred by law from
drawing such payments while they
are on armed services payrolls,
the VA said. It warned that vet
erans eligible for VA benefits who
fail to notify its offices of return
to active duty will be brought
Into court for recovery of the dis
ability or subsistence funds. The
VA also announced two steps to
protect veteran servicemen from
termination of National Service
Life Insurance policies:
1. Mail the premium due the
month following return to active
duty to the VA district office
handling the policy with notifi
cation the future premiums will
be paid by allotments from serv
ice pay.
2. Immediately make arrange
ments to have the armed service
branch entered deduct the amount
due for premiums from service
pay.
The VA office handling insur
ance accounts of veterans in the
District, Maryland, Virginia, West
Virginia and North Carolina is
District Office No. 4, Richmond.
Compensation and subsistence al
lowance is handled for area vet
erans through the Washington
Regional Office, 1825 H street
N.W. _
India Draws Up List
Of Currency Areas
NEW DELHI.—A new list of
currency areas has been drawn up
by the government of India. In
i addition to the dollar area—which
includes the United States, Can
ada and a few other countries—
i the hard-currency group will in
J elude the Argentine, Belgium, and
Japan.
Portugal and her possessions,
except those in India, will con
stitute the medium-currency area.
All other countries except Paki
stan and South Africa are des
ignated as soft-currency areas.

| Afghans Deny Inciting Pukhtuns to Revolt
KABUL, Afghanistan. — The
Government of Afghanistan
charges that Pakistan is “seeking
to convince public opinion” that
Afghanistan is stirring up the 7
million residents of Pukhtunistan
and trying to incite them into a
revolt against Pakistan.
This the Afghan Government
denies. One spokesman says:
"The truth is that this movement
of Pukhtuns for independence be
gan long before the creation of
Pakistan. Afghanistan asks noth
ing from Pakistan. It has no wish
to annex Pukhtunistan.”
