Military Power I By Harry Lever The Nation’s rapidly growing military power will be spectacu larly displayed on the ground and in the air Saturday during the free annual Armed Forces Day program at Bolling Air Force Base. Starting the day’s activity will be a parade featuring 10,000 marchers from all the services, ac companied by 16 bands. They will leave the Capitol at 10 a.m„ and proceed west on Constitution avenue. President Truman and high Government officials will be in the reviewing stand near Six teenth street N.W. Also at 10 a.m., 1 million square feet of air and ground exhibits will go on public view at Bolling. In the early afternoon, more than 200 service aircraft of all types, from the Air Force’s interconti nental B-36 bomber to little fabric-covered Army liaison planes, will pass over the field. The aerial display, expected to be the largest ever held in the United States, will last 4 V2 hours. Washingtonians will see the giant C-124 “Globemaster II, largest plane ever to land at Boll ing; the tiny XF-85, the Air Force’s parasite fighter, which can be carried in a B-36; the B-47 Stratojet, world's fastest bomber; a 90-plane Navy carrier group in a simulated air strike at Bolling; the Navy’s XF3D Skynight, high speed twin-jet fighter; the famous C-97A Stratoflghter of the Military Air Transport Service; a MATS modified SB-29, which carries a J lifeboat, and numerous other ! planes. Including a Coast Guard Gruman amphibian air-sea-rescue craft. Two platoons of Marines will land by helicopter at Bolling in a’ practice combat assault. A huge B-50 Superfortress, one of the Na tion’s atomic bombers, will be on hand, dominating dozens of other piston-engined and jet fighters, trainers and cargo aircraft. Navy vessels will be berthed at piers 4 and 5 on Maine avenue S.W., both Saturday and Sunday, and will De open for public inspection. Army flame-throwing tanks, portable field kitchens, a whole train manned by the Transporta tion Corps and ^rmy Institute of Pathology movies on the medical effects of the atomic bomb will round out the day. Among the distinguished vis itors to the show will be Arthur Godfrey, television and radio star. who also is well known as a pilot and aviation booster. There will be extensive free parking areas at Bolling, but those who can do so are urged to use, public transportation to the base. Special Capital Transit buses will leave Tenth street and Pennsyl vania avenue N.W., every five; minutes from 10 a.m. on. The best way for a private car to get to the airbase is via the South Capitol Street Bridge. m Made and used by Gorham-America's lead. l«8 Mlvenmiths since 1M1.
