Federation Officers' Fees Opposed by West End The West End Citizens’ Asso ciation last night disapproved ac ceptance of fees by two Federation of Citizens’ Associations officials for their part in the successful court light against a raise in gas rates. Joseph H. Gerone. who intro duced the action, said Herbert P. Leeman, Federation president, and Vernon V. Baker, chairman of the Federation’s Public Utilities Com mittee, were performing their civic duty when they undertook to prosecute the case. They went to court with the power of the federation behind them, Mr. Oerone said, and should not ac cept money for this. The meeting was held at 2003 I street N.W., and was conducted by Walter F. Wasson, president. An aerial survey of the Fiji Island group in the South Pacific is planned. Man Held in Threat to Boysr Perversion Case Witnesses James Francis Murphy, 38, no fixed address, was held yesterday for the grand jury under $10,000 bond today on a charge of ob structing Justice, after he was ac cused of threatening two boys, 7 and 13. Police said Murphy threatened the boys in connection with the arrest of four men charged with taking part in indecent acts in volving the boys. Police reported that Murphy threatened the youngsters with bodily harm if they did not change their stories to authorities. Murphy was captured after the boys told squad oar officers about the threats. Murphy waived hear ing before Municipal Judge Thomas C. Scalley. Held in Dis trict Jail for grand jury action in the perversion case are Charles L. Lynch, 54, of the 1000 block of Fourteenth street S.E.; Earl W. Higgs, 54. of the 500 block of M street, Capitol Heights, Md.; George H. Hiller, 51, of the 1300 block of Shepherd street N.W., and Thomas C. Adler of the 1400 block of V street S.E. Rankin Committee Votes Disability Pay Increase By tn« Associated Press Legislation for a 10 per cent increase in the disability compen sation of military service veterans was introduced yesterday by Chairman Rankin of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee. His bill, backed by the Ameri can Legion, also provides for in creases in pay to survivors of men killed. Postwar emigrants from Brit ain have taken more than $56. 000,000 into Southern Rhodesia. Elopement Bride Charged With Murder in Gunfight By tnt Associated Press CHASE CITY, Va„ May 15.— Mrs. Isabel Salmon Farrar. 24 year-old bride of less than two weeks, has been charged with murder in the gun-battle death of her father. She is free on bail | pending a hearing at Boydton May 25. Her father, Henry T. Salmon. 52-year-old Mecklenburg County farmer, and her brother-in-law, John T. Blackwell, 21, a factory worker, were killed in the shoot ing at the Salmon home near here Sunday. Authorities said Mrs. Farrai admitted firing at her father after he shot Blackwell, She said hei father was in a drunken rage be cause she had eloped. The shooting followed the re turn of Mrs. Farrar and her 16 year-old sister, Mrs. Frances Sal mon Blackwell, together with Mrs. Farrar’s husband, Edward Farrar, 19, and Richard Dix, 35, from a two-week trip to Georgia and Florida. The sisters had been re ported kidnaped at gun-point. Farrar married Frances Salmon jin Georgia. Farrar and Dix nave been tcharged with abduction and con jtributing to the delinquency of a j minor. Farrar is free, on bond and Dix, father of four, is in jail.
