New Blasting Slated To Stem Po Floods •y th« Associated Pres* ROVIGO, Italy, Nov. 26.—Flood fighters readied new dike-cutting blasts today to hasten to the Adri atic the destructive waters cover ing this Po River delta area. Though the water level dropped slowly in this drowned-out pro vincial capital, new threats were posed by disrupted sewage sys tems, weakened buildings and a lack of drinking water. More than 160.000 have been made homeless, and the unofficial death toll has climbed past 150 in the last 17 days of floods, but thousands clung stubbornly to the upper stories of their water-weak ened, maiooned homes. W. Averell Harriman, United States director of mutual security, warned in Rome of the danger of disease and announced that $1 million would be furnished the Italian government for medicines and other supplies for the flood victims. The decision to rip new' holes in the dikes near Adria followed an aerial survey of the flood area. Breaks made previously sent the mighty Po flowing over farmlands to the sea, 'spreading a great muddy blob from the broad delta far out into the Adriatic. Since the cuts, the flood level at Adria has risen only 5 inches, officials said. Here at Rovigo, to the west, the water was drop ping at the rate of an inch every three hours. He said the Suez Canal "will never be defended without the co-operation of Eeypt," but he declined to answer a question whether Egypt currently is able to defend Suez single-handed against an aggressor of Russia's strength. There are literally hundreds of thousands of people who should be intensely interested in what we are writing here. , They are the people who paid more for their cars than a Cadillac costs—and still didn't get a Cadillac. You see —there are five manufacturers of motor cars who produce a total of twenty models which actually cost more than the lowest-priced Cadillac. And during recent years, hundreds oj thousands of people have taken title to these higher-priced models. Surely, a large percentage of these owners did not understand, at the time of purchase, how comparatively little a Cadillac costs. They assumed that a Cadillac must cost more —because of its reputation. So they paid for a Cadillac —and still failed to get the things a Cadillac provides. They failed to get the irresistible perform ance of its great master high-compression engine ... so smooth and quiet that the car seems almost to move by automatic pro pulsion. They failed to get the soft, gliding Cadillac ride that makes every road a better road, and makes the longest journey a day of pleasure and relaxation. They failed to get the wonderful prestige which marks the Cadillac owner, throughout the civilized world, as a man distinctly apart. And, of course, they failed to get the price less personal satisfaction of owning the “Standard of the World” —the car which, for fifty years, has been built to the highest standards it is practical to attain. Surely, they won’t want to miss all this again. It’s a lot to lose—especially when it costs no more to have it. * * * If we already have your order for a Cadillac —please be assured that you have made a wise decision —and stand firm until your car is ready for delivery. But if we don't have your order—better come in and see us today. We are certain you don’t want to pay the price of a Cadillac — and still not get one! . ay*". - ' ' •* «(K. t CAPITOL CADILLAC-OLDSMOBILE COMPANY AKERS OLDSMOBILE-CADILLAC COMPANY STirling 2600 1222 22nd St. N.W.
